Chill Pill
Chill Pill Mobile Speakers - Red
smartly designed portable speakers
Now in red!
Winner of Wired's "Best Mobile Gizmo" award. Chill Pill speakers are highly portable, pocket-sized speakers that can be transported in "pill" form (ingeniously held together by magnets). When you want to play music, simply pull apart the pill and untwist the tops to release the mini-subwoofers. In addition, all the needed cords (stereo plug, USB input) are built into the speakers with their own coil system.
For its size, the Chill Pill offers loud and clear sound. I plugged in my iPhone and the sound filled a medium sized room. The manufacturer boasts that the quality of the sound is better than standard desktop computer speakers. The Chill Pill also expands to reveal mini-subwoofers for enhanced bass.
The Chill Pill is powered by a rechargeable battery. You can recharge them either by plugging them into your computer's USB port or the power adaptor (sold separately).
- enclosed in rugged matte black case
- works with all portable devices that have stereo out including iPods, iPhones, etc.
- when in "pill" mode, measures 2" x 4"
- built-in 1/8" stereo plug input cord
- built-in USB recharging cord
- volume control
- rechargeable lithium battery provides up to six hours of playing time
- can be charge via USB port of your computer or power plug (sold separately)

The Best Of Disco Demands Compiled Pt. 2 2LP
lost disco heaters compiled and re-edited
BOO-YAO! Special double LP vinyl version of Al Kent's latest disco comp for BBE. BBE has been teaming up with Al Kent over the past few years to put out some mind blowing compilations of lost disco heaters, but this one takes the cake! For Best Of Disco Demands, the label has compiled the best of Kent's Disco Demands series onto two double LP sets. Along with impossible to find original cuts the compilation features a ton of exclusive re-edits that Kent has made a name for himself with. Here's what he had to say about the release: "The Disco Demands series started sometime in the early 2000s - I couldn't give you an exact year because it didn't feel like a big deal, so I never noted it. I simply wanted to put out a compilation of some records I really liked and maybe make a little of the money back I was spending on them. Buy some food and stuff. There's always been Disco comps around of course but there was rarely anything that strayed too far from the standards; the same songs kept appearing over and over again, or the comps would feature records you could pick up anywhere for little money. I've never seen the point in that. I gave up judging a record on its value or rarity a long time ago but surely there's more to disco than Exodus, Martin Circus, Mass Production and all those Salsoul, West End and bloody Prelude records. So it was a nice surprise to find that there were other people out there who thought the same way. Volume 1 was pretty straightforward - just some nice records, with the only edit being an instrumental of "Disco Socks"; a strange, thinly veiled reference to the disco sucks movement. Then on Volume 2 I included a few of my edits and introduced the cover up concept to the disco world. That caused a bit of controversy, which of course I loved. And so it continued for five volumes. What we have here then is the full series, give or take one or two cuts, all remastered, many re-re-edited, with lots of nice naked pictures to boot." This is volume 1 and includes tracks from Hot Ice, Arthur King, Al Tanner, Curtis, Superbs, Sylvano Santorio and more. 8 tracks for the deep disco lovers, RECOMMENDED.

Atomic Forest
Obsession (w/ 44 Page Booklet) CD
mind-blowing Indian psych rarity
Now-Again Records presents an important document of India's little know psychedelic rock period. Obsession collects a wealth of rare and unreleased psychedelic rock and funk from the various incarnations of the Atomic Forest. The Atomic Forest's mix of blistering, fuzzy rock and synth-lead funk inspired collectors the world over to fork over thousands of dollars for original copies of their solitary release, Obsession '77. Part of the interest certainly stemmed from its liberal doses of searing fuzz guitar. Part of it sprung from the oddity of it all: India, a country that had, quite literally, churned out tens of thousands of albums during psych- and hard-rockâ™s heyday, only produced this one, lonely psychedelic album? Part of it sprung from the album's rarity: unknown for years, Obsession '77 suddenly became a top want on every global-rock collector's short-list. Now, packaged in a paste on CD Sleeve with O-Card a, this ungodly fusion of funk and psychedelia is available to all. Includes 44 page booklet with Egon's extensive liner notes and annotation, story behind their genesis are, never before seen photos, and ephemera. Recommended.

lost disco heaters compiled and re-edited
BOO-YAO! BBE has been teaming up with Al Kent over the past few years to put out some mind blowing compilations of lost disco heaters, but this one takes the cake! For their latest collaboration, the label has compiled all 5 volumes(!) of Kent's Disco Demands series into one massive 5 CD set (and you know if anyone has enough rare disco gems to fill 5 CDs worth of material, it's Al Kent). Radiohead: The King Of Limbs - Live From The Basement Blu-Ray + DVD
live, intimate performance of songs from The King Of Limbs on Blu-Ray + DVD
From The Basement is an unprecedented live music program on BBC, which includes Nigel Godrich, Radiohead's longtime producer, on the team behind project. For an episode with Thom Yorke and the gang, FTB captures the recording session which consisted of the band performing The King Of Limbs in its entirety. In addition to the four members, drummer Clive Dreamer (Portishead, Roni Size) joins, and a horn section also appears on a few songs. The critically acclaimed album is excellent in itself, but to see Radiohead play tracks off of it live (at Maida Vale Studios) is a treat, "a beautiful fifty five minute journey into the world" of the outfit. The fans will especially enjoy the "icing on top" moments of the DVS, as Radiohead decides to perform "Supercollider" (previously available only 12 inch single) and two brand new tracks, "Daily Mail" and "Staircase". This Blu-Ray version is accompanied by a 32-page book featuring photographs of the session by Steve Keros, highly recommended.

Disco Not Disco: Post Punk, Electro & Leftfield Classics 1974-1986 2LP
leftfield disco, post punk, and electro
The third in the popular Disco Not Disco series originally came out on CD years ago and finally gets released as a double vinyl! All sorts of leftfield disco rarites, post punk gems, and obscure electro classics get compiled here by Bill Brewster, the co-author of "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life." If you've never read his book, it puts NY's disco boom under a powerful microscope, detailing the makings of the phenomenon. And of course, when you have a new breed of anything, you know there'll be many imitators and mutations. That's just nature of the beast, especially in NYC and thus a sound developed that is "Disco Not Disco." The bands that combine post punk, electro and disco are in the spotlight here, and Brewster's selections frame the spirit of the era so well. For some prime samples, check Delta 5's "Mind Your Own Business(1)," Shriekback's "My Spine Is The Bassline(2)," James White & The Blacks' "Contort Yourself - August Darrell Mix(3)," Kazino's "Binary(4)," Liasons Dangereuses' "Los Ninos Del Parque(5)" and Maximum Joy's "Silent Street / Silent Dub(6)." Driving rhythms, strong vocals, propulsive basslines and stimulating synths can be found of most of these tracks and that's always a recipe for excitement on the dancefloor! Also includes the underground Detroit classic "Sharevari(7)" from A Number Of Names and the Factory records jam "Love Tempo(8)" by Quando Quango! 10 tracks total spread over 2LPs, Recommended.

Joker
The Vision Instrumentals EP
purple dubstep beats
Instrumental versions of Joker's acclaimed debut full length! Joker has been killing the dubstep game for a few years now with his signature "purple" sound, a style that has leant itself to numerous anthemic 12"s and a gang imitators. Through the years the sound has slowly evolved and become more focused to the point that it seems anything Joker touches nowadays becomes massive. The Vision showcases the power of the purp sound with proven anthems like "Tron" and "My Trance Girl," and also finds Joker infusing it with potent cross-over potential. Check "Slaughterhouse," the title track, and "On My Mind" for a taste. Also worthy of mention is the introspective "Milky Way" and the Ginz collab "The Magic Causeway." Recommended.

Cadillac
Cadillac 2LP
disco-fied synth pop and balearic grooves, excellent remixes
Cruise with Cadillac through the sexy sounds of disco-fied synth pop and balearic grooves on the self-titled debut on Australia's always schmoove Future Classic imprint. If you were feeling that Poolside record, the recent Hot Creations stuff, or the smoother side of Daft Punk, do yourself a favor and add to cart now because you won't be disappointed! From the get go, "Dreams(1)" will lure you in with catchy synth melodies and emotive vocals courtesy of Joel Byrne (Wolf & Cub), but then they rev the engine up with the peaktime boogie pop jammer "Past Midnight(2)" and by now you should know what you're dealing with. The vibes continue with "Make You Feel(3)," while "High For Me(4)," and "Blue Skies(5)" cool out out on the smooth sensual interlude tip. If that wasn't enough, you also get a gang of killer remixes from top dogs in the game including Ray Mang(6), Marcos Cabral (of Runaway/On The Prowl fame)(7), and Miracles Club(8). Recommended!

Storm Queen
It Goes On 12"
Morgan Geist-produced house jam
Storm Queen follows up last years smash "Look Right Thu" with the hot sounds of "It Goes On(1)." The formula that made the first single a dancefloor hit remains the same, a retro-chic house beat (though more minimal this time) from Metro Area's Morgan Geist, with diva-man vocals from Damon C. Scott. It takes a bit for the all the synths to come in, but it's totally worth the wait cause when it finally drops, it hits the floor hard ("Oh yeah"!)! Vocal and Dub mixes included. Recommended.

LAB POINTS
- powered monitors, no need for amplifier
- Bass Reflex enclosure provides more mid-bass and bass output
- Curved Waveguide Enclosure provides a wider pattern for better Imaging and staging
- included control accessory allows users to simultaneously operate the volume, power and four switchable input channels of both speakers
- four types of inputs (XLR, TRS and two sets of RCA)
- Auto Standby switches to standby mode when input is not detected within 60 minutes
MANUFACTURER'S REVIEW
The S-DJ05 Active Reference Monitoring Speakers are designed for DJing and music production. These speakers feature excellent sound quality, audio parameter control, built-in linear equalization and four switchable inputs, useful for DJs and producers who need to achieve the highest accuracy in musical reproduction. In addition, the S-DJ05 speakers offer users the ability to change settings such as sound characteristics and audio inputs via a unique manual controller.
Audio Quality
The compact speakers achieve a larger than normal listening area due to the use of a curved waveguide enclosure that directs the soft-dome tweeterâ™s sound in a wider pattern for better imaging and staging. This means more listeners across a larger area of a room can hear the higher frequencies than with traditional designs. Additionally, the Bass Reflex enclosure extends the lower frequency range to provide more mid-bass and bass output. In order to reproduce the highest quality audio possible, the speakers are also equipped with strong high-force magnets for better control of the subwoofers, a low resonance chimney-style heat sink and a bi-amp circuit that drives the tweeter and woofer separately.
Whether the speakers are utilized for DJing or producing music, the built-in linear equalizer provides further fine-tuning of sound for all listeners' tastes. The linear equalizer allows users to adjust the low and high bands from -6 dB to +6dB helping to enhance the tonal quality of instruments while producing music or recreate the low frequency sound of a club while DJing for a more realistic experience, important for critical listeners.
Control
Unique to Pioneer's DJ speakers, the included control accessory allows users to simultaneously operate the volume, power and four switchable input channels of both speakers. The dial style control knob also engages the equalizer and muting of both speakers.
Inputs and Extras
The S-DJ05 speakers feature four types of inputs (XLR, TRS and two sets of RCA) that let users connect various devices simultaneously, such as a computer, DJ equipment, portable device, etc. The various inputs eliminate the need to change cable connections so the speakers can be utilized with a broad variety of sources.
The speakers also feature an environmentally-friendly Auto Standby feature that automatically detects input signals and switches the standby mode when input is not detected within 60 minutes. For additional functionality, bottom screw holes were implemented for use with commercially available stands.

Nixon
Master Blaster Headphones - All Black / Light Wood
slick wood grain accents
Unique version of Nixon's premium Master Blaster headphones with slick wood grain accents. Nixon started out making custom built watches in the late 90s and are now applying their sleek sense of design and functionality to headphones. The Master Blaster model is Nixon's top of the line and it is most luxurious. Boasting loud 50mm drivers for crisp, full range sound, patent-pending ball and socket connection for almost limitless range of motion for a true custom fit, and a lightweight metal construction, you can tell these are built for comfort, durability, and performance. You'll also notice as you take it out of the box the rich smell of leather, which is actually coming from the hand-crafted, real leather ear pads and headband. So fancy. Comes with a removable, one-sided cord and a custom molded foam carrying case with accessory pocket. Recommended.

It inherits the slick, functionalist design the brand is known for, and for design-minded people with active lifestyles, it is a no-brainer.

Shoes
Warp Afrobeat Remix Project (Aphex Twin) 12"
afrobeat mixed with IDM, pick
Shoes, one of the most creative editors around, revisits his afro-electro idea (remember "Afro-Perculator"), but this time, utilizes classic 90s IDM as the afro-foil. Some real music nerdery here mixing up Aphex Twin and Autechre with afrobeat, but it also takes a real music nerdus to pull it off properly... Highly interesting stuff that isn't just a gimmick, but some true music explorations. Highly recommended.

Linkwood
Secret Value 12"
tasteful house on clear 180g vinyl
Haven't heard from Linkwood in a few, but looks like he's still crankin' out the jams! The Secret Value 12" showcases Linkwood's rich and tasteful house production with 3 tracks that give us a taste of what's to come on his forthcoming debut LP on Firecracker. My favorite is "Ignorance Is Bliss(1)," a track that is rooted in classic Chicago vibes (a la Fingers Inc.), but fresh and modern at the same time. Check the emotive synths and no-nonsense acid line over expertly programmed drums. "Between Me & You(2)" shifts into Detroit mode with plenty of warm synths and flange effects over spaced out drums designed to capture the minds and bodies of those on the dancefloor. The title track(3) boasts a similar vibe, one that makes you feel like you're dancing in the clouds. Limited pressing on clear 180g vinyl, recommended.

Magma
Digi Stick Case - Black (MGA47611)
compact, durable carry-case for USB sticks, SD cards
This one is a must for DJs that spin off of USB sticks and SD cards (or media people always on the move with pics/videos). You already know how easy it is to damage flash devices, and when you're 4-5 hour set for that dream gig is sitting on a few 8, 16, or 32GB drives, key rings are just not the way to go. Constructed of waterproof ballistic nylon, The Magma Digi Stick Case features 4 flexible neoprene USB stick holders, a mesh pocket for SD cards (or business cards, headphone adaptors, etc) as well as a high quality zipper to keep everything secure. DJ Harvey
Locussolus Remixes (Dr. Dunks, Com Truise) 12"
disco house and synth beat remixes of DJ Harvey's project
Big remixes for DJ Harvey's Locossolus project courtesy of NY disco don Eric Duncan aka Dr. Dunks and retro-future synth beat maestro Com Truise. Dunk's version of "Tan Sedan" is an instant party starter with big house rhythms carrying an underlying disco vibe. Already getting spins from Hot Chip, Soulclap, Jacques Renault and other big players. The Com Truise remix of "Throwdown" takes the tone down to a heavy head nod or chilled-out hip sway with heavy synths and crushing beats that set the backdrop for Harvey's vocals. Recommended.

Factory Floor
Two Different Ways 12"
industrial strength synths for the dancefloor
Factory Floor has been making waves in the underground scene for a minute (remixes/remixers include Optimo, Gavin Russom, Throbbing Gristle, and Joy Divison's Stephen Morris!), and now make their debut on DFA for their most dance-y release to date. Though FF often get the "post-industrial" label attached to them, "Two Different Ways(1)" has a minimalist house vibe that's squarely aimed for the dancefloor. Check the mesmerizing synth lines that drive the track with an old school acid house feel, while Nik Colk's haunting vocals breathe life into the groove. As the title states, the track is literally done in two different ways, and for the second way(2), Factory Floor flip the arrangement, going full force from the start for more of a driving instrumental feel. Recommended.
