Monsters Book
As Pete passed me in the office, his comment struck me, "that Monsters book is weird right?" I can only agree. Charlie White is not your average photographer and his vision is quite contrary of popular photos. There's no parties, no slice of life, no "beautiful people," yet he manages to provoke and pull your interest deep into the picture plane. His combination of staging, fake models, monsters, lighting, and color is as surreal as can be, and his settings are usually ones that you see everyday - kitchens, classrooms, offices, the burbs, the city, etc. Kinda like if your own memories became infected with alien interference. In this post post-modern age, he stands as a true visionary, provoking us to question the fabric of reality itself. Good and evil, family and love, mystery and mayhem - its all in there. Nowadays everything is pictures, and pictures are not always to be trusted. White reminds you not to forget.
