Dutch label Kindred Spirits has reissued this sought-after Parisian soul-afro-jazz classic for the first time on CD. This album, originally released in 1974 by Parisian label Chant Du Monde, has achieved cult status with its easy to digest, yet highly spiritual sounds. There's just an overwhelming positive vibe here. Check out the sun bursting out of the dark clouds sound of the nearly 9 minute long "Chact Inca(1)." "Liberation(2)" is just straight dope, the waning basslines make the song. "Garvey's Strut(3)" is the monster sample track here that sounds like it should have been a sample on Low End Theory. On the lighter side, "The High Life(4)" immediately instills some nostalgic feelings, like a scene from a movie where your dad teaches you how to build a wooden car in the garage. For bonus tracks, the label has added two tracks from a super-rare Jeff Gilson 10" from the 1960s (the label calls it the holy grail of "French Spiritual Jazz Music"). Check the sophisticated "Le Grand Bidou(5)" as well the unexpected swagger of "Fable Of Gutenberg(6)." 7 tracks in all. Highly enjoyable.
