V/A Soul Messages From Dimona CD
|
the lab review
From the mid 70s to early 80s, a group of Americans from Chicago and Detroit emigrated to Dimona, home to Israel's Black Hebrew population, and declared the city the spiritual capitol of the world. In addition to the Soul Messengers - a pre-existing Chicago combo - several groups sprung up around the community, and Numero has unearthed some of their recordings for their latest venture into the wonderful and obscure. The sounds range from the soul-funk of Tonistics' "Holding On(1)" to the Sons of the Kingdom's soaring jazz-rock on "Modernization(2)" to the Messengers' psychedelic "Burn Devil Burn(3)." Also check: Tonistics' "Dimona(4)," Soul Messengers' "Our Lord & Savior(5)," and Sons of the Kingdom's deceptively sweet-sounding "Hey There(6)." Includes a 24 page booklet with the full story of Dimona, plus hordes of rare photos and album covers. 16 tracks; 68 minutes.
