Lush and dreamy downtempo from Sebastien Tellier - what else would you expect when the man who made "La Ritournelle(1)" creates a score for a film about a guy with narcolepsy who dreams about Jean-Claude Van Damme as an angel? Exactly. This is from 2004, and therefore doesn't sport much of the Ed Banger influence that Mr. Tellier's tunes are sporting nowadays. (To me, that's a very good thing.) "La Ballade Du Georges(2)" leads things off, setting the tone for the rest of the record with a plunking bassline and hazy woodwinds that take you off to Dreamville. From there, it just gets more lush and mellow ("Le Long De La Riviere Tendre(3)," "Gus Gracie(4)") though the tracks sometimes explode unexpectedly with orchestrated Technicolor sound ("Le Demon Pupkin(5)." The best part - if you missed out on the "La Ritournelle" single last year, the full 8-minute version is included here. I've said it before, but I'll say it again: that song will never get old. 13 tracks; approx. 40 minutes. Highly recommended.
