Two-CD mixed set from UK crew the Soulsavers, who appear to be some deep funk and soul heads with a couple oddball LPs of their own. This mix is a loosely knit cardigan of pleasantly acidic vintage soul and odd pop, with a strong kick of hard funk drums throughout. Among the many oddities (81 tracks deep, they say) I particularly applauded Horace Silver's "Acid Pot or Pills" and King Coleman's "Boo Boo Song," but don't go looking for titles on the minimal liners. There's no song info, and unfortunately each CD is untracked, which makes for nice mp3 listening but a difficult terrain to navigate with a regular deck. There's minimal doubling of breaks here and there, but you're often hearing the whole song straight through, which is fine since they're quality. Obscurity-wise, the dude is bragging about using all OG pressings on the sleeve and shouting out the Sound Library, so you can be sure this one will satisfy species Recordus Nerdius. An interesting listen for the admirer of the obscure groove.
