Another unmixed, DJ-friendly collection from Mr. Ayres. I don't need to tell you how huge Baltimore shit is right now (just check the Lab's top selling records), and outside of the Unruly dudes, Ayres & Titts & Bamabounce have been making some...
expand review of the best club remixes around. This CD collects up a grip of rare, unreleased and previously available tracks from the boys, especially handy to CD DJs, Seratonians and those who missed out on the first pressings of Tittsworth's self-released EPs. My favorite track here is still Tittsworth's remix of The Jeffersons theme song(1), but there's other strong contenders: Ayres' Luda-jacking "Broke Ass Home(2)" has quickly become a staple for a lotta DJs and Bamabounce's mixes of Kelis' "Bossy(3)" and Three Six's "Poppin' My Collar(4)" are pretty damn hot too. For goofy Bmore fun, it don't get much better than Tittsworth's ultra-retarded Milli Vanilli remix(5). A bargain and a half right here. 12 tracks in crisp CD quality. (P.S. Look out for a Money Studies release from this pair in the near future ) -Chris Lemon-Red

Unmixed Baltimore club shit! DJ Krames (of Richmond, VA's Cobra Kai crew) cooks up some crazy Baltimore and house remixes for all the fiendish digital DJs. (I thought it was hard to find good Bmore vinyl – turns out it's 10x harder...
expand review to find good Bmore MP3s.) "Oh My God!(1)" is a killer Bmore gimmick track, mixing the standard "Sing Sing" break with the white girl dialogue from "Baby Got Back" ("Oh. My. God. Becky. Look. At her. Butt."), and then spiking it with the horn breakdown from Pharrell's "Can I Have It Like That." On "Oh Yep(2)," Krames takes a stab at Yello's classic 80s track (you know the one), while "Ignition Bounce(3)" is a real solid and entertaining edit of R.Kelly's "Ignition (Remix)." Also check the heavy, Busta-sampling "How We Do It Over Hur(4)" (love those "Percolator" touches) and the unlisted bonus remix of Young Dro's "Shoulder Lean." 12 tracks; 40 minutes. -Chris Lemon-Red

Officially dubbed "It's the Motherfucking Remix Volume 2.2," this is the officially official version of the DJ-friendly promo disc that Ayres has been handing off to select pals for a few minutes. (That was Volume 2.1 – ya see?) Whereas the first...
expand review two volumes of It's the Motherfucking Remix featured the tracks continuously mixed together, this CD gives you all the best full-length remixes, blends and m*sh-ups from the Rub crew and extended familia – no blending, no interruptions, perfect for playing out or throwing into your next radio show or mixtape. As a little bonus, Ayres included some new and exclusive shit that wasn't on Volume 1 or 2, like his Bmore version of Crystal Waters' "She's Homeless," titled "La Da Dee(1)," and his Curtis Mayfield Bmore, "Move On Up(2)," which was originally featured on Tittsworth's label. (Ditto for him and Catchdubs' Bmore remix of "Tell Me When To Go(3).") A-Trak contributes the most interesting and leftfield blend here, twerking Jack White and the Raconteurs' "Steady As She Goes" and dropping Nelly Furtado's "Promiscuous" on top(4). Check also: Cosmo Baker's remix of "Stunt 101(5)" and Catchdubs' Too Short / Bangles blend, "Egyptian Rubber(6)." Needless to say, this one's a good look for all your Seratonians. 20 tracks total. -Chris Lemon-Red

This is the first ever CD compilation from the only label that pretty much everyone can agree on nowadays. What do we really need to say about this one? We sold a couple hundred copies of Justice's "Phantom(1)" in a few days,...
expand review so I'd have to imagine y'all are still hungry for it. Not to mention a lot of the shit here is previously unreleased and much-talked about, like Uffie's Hollerboard slam "Dismissed(2)" (no comment) or two tracks from the lesser-known but always great Mr. Flash, "Eagle Eyez(3)" and "Disco Dynamite(4)." You also get to catch up on some singles, like label head Busy P's "Rainbow Man(5)" and the Krazy Baldhead B-side "Strings of Death(6)." So-Me even gets inside the sleeve this time with a remix of Klaxons' "Golden Skans(7)!" Our good friends at Vice hooked it up with a US-exclusive bonus track, too – it's Busy P's remix of "What's Your Name Again(8)" by hotshot French rock outfit Fancy. 15 tracks total. Highly recommended. -Chris Lemon-Red

France is on fire! Between the Institubes, Arcade Mode, Ed Banger and, of course, Kitsune labels, FR easily has the strongest collective dance music section in the world. Kitsune's third comp in their Maison series does nothing to disprove that theory, full...
expand review as always with brand new tracks and the best from their recent 12" releases. There are some really strong players emerging out of the Kitsune stable - folks like Simian Mobile Disco (who you undoubtedly know from Kanye West's favorite video) and Fox N Wolf really shine here with the NIN-gone-disco vibes on "I Believe(1)" and sickeningly sweet twee singalong on "Youth Alcoholic(2)," respectively. Suddenly high-profile remixer Boys Noize has a new original production here with the Daft Punk homage "Feel Good(3)," and Oh No! Oh My! are a really interesting hybrid of frantic beats, folky acoustic guitars and vaguely disillusioned-yet-passionate, Joy Division-ish vocals on "I Love You All The Time(4)." Kitsune strays from their norm a few times here with really decent results; case in point, The Lovely Feathers' "Frantic(5)," which sounds like the lead singer from Clinic replacing Pete Doherty in The Libertines. No, in a good way. 14 tracks; 60+ minutes. -Chris Lemon-Red
