First official release from the Symbol Heavy collective out of Kansas City, featuring one of my favorite new beatmakers, Boyd Pro. Like Boyd's solo album, the main theme running through this comp's 38 tracks is hip-hop, but almost every song is spiked with a different ingredient: dusty downtempo, heady psych, processed electronics, and so on. Artists include Boyd Pro, Topp Boom (who also handles the trippy cover art, featuring SH's "target audience"), M.Barnacle, Beatbroker, BGM, Dragon Tears, Brother of Moses, Negro Scoe / Pro-Mo-Scoe, The Hundred Spoke and more. Plenty of solo beats from each artist, plus crossovers and collaborations every which way. I can see Symbol Heavy doing big things in the very near future... 38 tracks; 54 minutes.
