Lab Overview

Live recording from mid 70s era Herbie & crew. While Herbie Hancock has seen the Jazz world shift styles for decades it is possible his most memorable involvement is during the 70s. Along with The Headhunters his funky movements incorporated traditional Jazz with modern techniques, instruments, and ideas. Keeping things in the pocket, the funk was much more notable on this recording having just released his classic Manchild album. The recording is taken from a 1975 recording in Omaha Nebraska that was also broadcast on FM radio. The band sounds TIGHT and the crowd is electrified occasionally coming in through the recording showing their signs of approval. Joining Hancock on stage was Michael Clarke on Drums, Paul Jackson on Bass, Dewayne McNight on guitar, Bill Summers on percussion and Bennie Maupin handling reeds. This is groundbreaking work and marks a very special time in the bandleader's still ongoing career. Comes housed in a beautiful Blue Note style jacket and pressed across two LPs.
