Lab Overview

Debut full length from Brooklyn's Bookworms! The house and techno producer (aka Nicholas Dawson) has been a part of the L.I.E.S. records crew since the early days, his "Love Triangles" 12" a standout of the label's heavy output. Since then he's released a steady stream of quality material for labels like Anòmia, Confused House and NORD Records. Xenophobe finds him on fellow L.I.E.S.producer Entro Senestre's (Jon Beall) new imprint, Bank. Initially supposed to be a 12" release, Dawson had enough material in his SD card stash for a double LP. Some of the tracks date as far back as 2008, but the expansive nature of Dawson's productions lends a sense of timelessness to them. Gauzy atmospheres give way to more driving techno over the course of the seven cuts that make up the album. Modular excursions are juxtaposed against more sample heavy pieces. Dawson's sense of timing and his patience with the different elements that make up his tracks are what tie it all together. He takes the Pacific Northwest sensibilities of the Mood Hut sound and melds it with the power of Detroit techno. Class material indeed. Recommended.
