the lab review
It seems like just yesterday that I was excitedly telling Monk at Black Betty (RIP) that I thought I had a dubstep track that people would actually dance to. I was referring to the Joker / 2000F & J Kamata: "Digidesign" / "You Don't Know What Love Is" single. Guess what? People didn't dance to it. So along come the people's champs Monk and E's E aka Greenwood Rhythm Coalition to provide some warm wobble for the non-dubstep crowd. And honestly, people will dance to this. The A-side "Oye(1)" is an obvious selection (in a good way) and will flip unsuspecting bailarinas perspectives when the bass drops. So well done! The B-side "Cubano(2)" is my pick and had me trainspotting at APT a few weeks ago when Monk previewed the then-unreleased heat to a very receptive crowd. This one is going to get a lot of play in my sets and really allows the blending of the horns, piano and half-time deep bass tendencies to feel quite organic. I think this record represents a watershed moment not only because of it's quality, but also because it doesn't sound forced AT ALL. This is great for open-minded dance floors and grown Latin heads who don't hate all new music. And leave it to GRC to give you the nice open drum outro so you can get creative with the mix. It's also pressed up nice and loud and the label art is kind of killing it. I love when good DJs are also good producers. So much fun for everyone! Recomendado.
