the patented lab review lab informed suggestions
1976's Harlem Underground has firmly established its place as a digger's classic. The faceless band (produced by Paul Winley, including such notable players as George Benson, Dave Cortez, and Willis Jackson) is a perfect expression of blaxploition music, break aesthetics, and 70s soul. Simply check out the breakbeat classic "Smokin Cheeba-Cheeba(1)" and the righteous cover of "Ain't No Sunshine" (also with nasty break). When the effects wear off, proceed to the fun male-female soul vocals of "Fed Up" and the upbeat, feelgood boogie of "Finger In It." Yeah.
