the patented lab review lab informed suggestions
Judging by the singles that precluded this album, you knew this would be good. But what I didn't predict, is that the normally Saturday morning Scruff comes wielding a blade. Check "Test The Sound ," where Scruff chops up hip-hop vocals Premier-style over hard drum programming. "Music Takes Me Up " keeps the hard drum sound going, smoothly transitioning into Scruff's jazz vocal style. We then get to the first of the singles "Donkey Ride " then the wicked, dark dance sounds of "Hairy Bumpercress ." It's really a return to the drums here, check the break-laden "Whiplash " with its dubstep-influenced flourishes. He gets deeper into the step with Roots Manuva on "Nice Up The Function ," then gives his own take of the genre on "Bang The Floor ." From this point, the album turns into a dance party, led by "Get On Down " and followed by the brilliant "Hold On " and the "hit" single "Kalimba ." At 13 tracks deep, this is a manatus. Recommended.
