Not so much a remix as a reinvention of Tony Allen's "Losun," "Sankofa(1)" is just another addition to the ever-expanding lore of Hypnotic Brass Ensemble. How does everything these guys make wind up feeling meaningful and life-affirming? Anchored by solid percussion with more mesmerizing solos than I can count, chalk this up as another hit for the brothers. On the flip, former Sun Ra collaborator Salah Ragab and his Afro-Egyptian Ensemble put a jazzy big band spin on Allen's "Ole(2)" and "One Tree(3)." Plays at 45.
