Lately, it seems like I can't turn my head in NY without seeing Drop The Lime headlining somewhere. It seems like yesterday when Snackmaster and I was watching him pre-Institubes, killing the crowd at Galapagos with his live Ableton set. I've been to their orgiastic bass sets before at Trouble & Bass, but to see him live with no turntables, it blew my fuckin' mind. He was rocking insane filter tweaking, jacking rhythms, unrelenting bass, with the ferocity of a beast. Usually the DJs are so cool in NY, you can hardly spot a head nod, but here's this skinny dude looking like he's raping his own laptop! Amazing. Not to mention, he was singing and sampling himself over his live productions. Really took me back to watching clips of Thomas Bangalter rocking warehouse parties with nothing but bass and drum machines. In that light, I guess Drop The Lime is heading towards the future by using all traditional tactics, like a true renaissance DJ. Listen to all the versions to this "Hear Me" track. I'll bet the rest of my grilled cheese that that's him on vocals. He also somehow found time to 3D animate a video for it, so I'll repeat - renaissance DJ. Also includes Curses Remix, MonsterMosh Dub, ExtraBass mix, and Original. Recommended.
