Armand Van Helden is back and in a big way. In the dance music scene, he's the ultimate chameleon, able to switch and master different subgenres every couple years. His new sound is what you'd label as "new disco" or "nu electro" but "NYC Beat" is more like a beefed-up version of no-wave. One listen and you'll know why this guy is so respected, this track is sounds super-fresh in a crowded genre and it's immediately club friendly. The remixes are high caliber as well (total gravy), check MSTRKFT's chopped and amplified version and Emperor Machine's masterful dub version. Recommended.
