DJ Quicksilva
Where They Do That At Digi-12
southern-styler rap from Bmore
You know that thing that DJs do where they sit around and talk about all the weird, crazy and annoying shit that happens during their gigs? This is kind of like the musical version of that. Quicksilva's a DJ from Baltimore (catch him on 93.9 if you're down in the Charm City), but he dons his rapper cap here, relating some mockable club moments over a southern beat. Good for a laugh, or if you want to call out all the wack people at your gig.

J Dilla
Dillanthology Vol. 3 Digi-LP
classic Dilla production
Third and final installment of in the Dillanthology. Whereas the first volume focused on his best known producton for other artists and the second on focused on his remixes, this one gives shine to Jay Dee's best solo work. Many of the tracks featured are from his last few years on this planet with highlights from Welcome To Detroit, his Jaylib collab with Madlib, his final masterpiece Donuts,as well as tracks from posthumous releases The Shining, Jay Stay Paid and Ruff Draft. Can't front on any of these beats. This is classic material you can bump from beginning to end. Recommended.

Slum Village
Fantastic Vol 2 Instrumentals Pt. 1 Digi-LP
classic, sought after Dilla beats
Finally! Slum Village's Fantastic featured all Dilla production, but for years the instrumentals were never readily (or officially) available. Here we have part 1 of those long sough-after productions featuring Detroit soul claps goin boom bap over smooth and careful samples. So many bright moments here including the instrumental for "Untitled/Fantastic," "Raise It Up," "2U 4U," "Eyes Up," and "CB4." Also includes the bonus vocal cuts "Keep It On" and "Fat Cat." This is a no brainer. Highly Recommended.

People Under the Stairs
Carried Away Digi-LP
indy rap with old school flavor
Thes One & Double K are back with their SEVENTH (these cats put in work!) full length. Following up 2008's FUN DMC, the Cali MC/producer duo continue to pay respects to the old school with funky flows and digger-approved beats proving again and again that you can still have fun with hip-hop. Check the old school flavor from LA on tracks like "Listen," "80 Blocks From Silverlake," "Beer," "DQMOT," "Down In LA," "My Boy D," and "Teeth." You can tell they even got bit by the disco bug as heard on the hype party rap jam "Trippin' At The Disco."

People Under the Stairs
Trippin' At The Disco Digi-EP
indy disco rap
Lead single off their recent 2009 full length Carried Away. "Trippin At The Disco" catches the PUTS dudes in full-on hype mode with party chants and everything. The familiar old school flow is still in-tact over tough disco beats with nice cutting to match. "DQMOT" features a smooth jazz vibe, with a surprise appearance by Keyboard Cat at the end of the cut. Thes One gets the remix on the flip, which has a slick, sophisticated groove. Includes instrumentals for both so you can rock raps our just move to the beats.

Juiceboxxx and Dre Skull
Hype (Sinden, Udachi) Digi-EP
energetic hip-house and electro
The final installment in Juiceboxxx & Dre Skull's trilogy of singles (the first two were Sweat and Center Stage). Just like their previous work, this oen features some wild, fast paced raps from Mr. Boxxx backed by great production from the always reliable Dre Skull. "Hype" is an uptempo breakbeat track that lurks beneath lyrics about getting... well, hype. Huge remixes here too, with Sinden turning it into a straight up hip-house track and Udachi putting his signature belching bass sounds into the mix. Dre Skull also gets an extra crack at it, making it into a "hands in the air" techno moment.

Crookers
What Up Y'all (Seiji, DJ Gant-Man, Kid Cudi) Digi-EP
electro with huge remixes
After blowing-the-fuck-up with their remix of Kid Cudi's "Day 'N Nite," Crookers and Fool's Gold are back at it with a full length EP from the Italian duo. "What's Up Y'all," yet another electro jackhammer that features up and comer Izza Kizza on the hook. There's been lots of hype floating around for this one, I wouldn't be surprised if it blows up with all the kids in neon. "Knobbers" features their signature electro/bmore sound combo, and also gets a remix from Fool's Gold alum DJ Gant-Man. UK brokenbeat star Seiji contributes two remixes here, in both booty-bass and acid flavors, their collabo with Kid Cudi, "Embrace The Martian." The original version of that track, which is also included, was originally featured on Kid Cudi's A Kid Named Cudi mixtape. Six tracks total, recommended.

Speech Debelle
Spinnin' Digi-EP
UK hip-hop from mercury prize winner
If you want to hear what the hype is about, this a good place to start. Winner of 2009's Mercury prize for best new artist, Speech Debelle drops a catchy blend of hip-hop and uk grime. "Spinnin" immediately draws you in with a feelgood quality, no doubt borrowing the blueprint from Trick Daddy's "I'm A Thug." Also includes three dance remixes which show Debelle's harder edge.

Aaron Lacrate
Club Kids Digi-EP
bmore, hip hop and juke tracks featuring young rappers
Aaron Lacrate luh da kids! On this fresh EP, LaCrate and partner Debonair Samir worked with a group of young (like, real young, not like Yung Joc), aspiring rappers and the end result is a great EP filled with Bmore club, southern rap and juke styles. At times, the whole thing kind of sounds like an awesome alternate dimension version of Sesame Street, and if you ever play a gig for little kids this is a no brainer. 8 tracks total.

Disco Juice: Volume 2 Digi-LP
excellent comp of rare NY disco
Killer comp of rare disco cuts by P&P! To say that these are sought after jams is a huge understatement. It has everything from staple deep disco jams like Super-Jay's "Super Jay's Love Theme" and Cloud One's "Dust To Dust," disco rap classics like Margo's Koolout Crew's "Death Rap" and Willie Wood's "Willie Rap," super disco soul cuts like Jesse Henderson's "I Did It Again," and hard dancefloor jammers like Golden Flamingo Orchestra's "The Guardian Angel Is Watching" and "Ahzz's "New York Is Moving." Super packed hard-to-find claims here. If you like disco, you need these in your life, nuff said. Highly Recommended!

100MPH Digi-EP
fist pumping hip-house, heavy bass remixes
The Milwaukee-bred, Chicago house lovin' MC-slash-producer goes all the way on "100MPH," a fist pumpin' piano house anthem with super positive, feel good raps. Big lovin' piano chords and emotive guitars set the groove while the vocals keep it movin'. Rumor has it he even ventured out to Chicago to have his vocals recorded by house legends Joe Smooth and Craig Loftis! AC Slater pumps it up even more on his remix with crazy wobble bass offsetting the piano chords for HYPE results. Also includes a driving electro remix by Ocelot and an interesting Free Blood remix.

Da Hardy Boyz
Here I Am (Runaway Remix) Digi-EP
hip-house and new disco sounds from ttl family
LAB EARLY EXCLUSIVO! After a run of heavy bloggin, sunrise sessions, and surprise shows, Da Hardy Boyz (aka Blu Jemz, Unemployed Lloyd, and TK) have finally emerged to the bright surface with their debut EP. Opener "Here I Am" whispers to their formative period as a cheeky German techno - Ron Hardy tribute band (we're keeping the demos under wraps). Don't take it too seriously, but do take the Arthur Baker inspired beats and synths seriously. The instrumental "I Want You There" pays homage to the cosmic disco 12"s the Boyz love so much and sets up the club heater "Hardy Time." This club mutant has been getting the hardest love at shows with its hard drums, new wave basslines and echoed lyrics. Did Lloydski really say "I'll be your Stouffers"? For the cherry on top, DFA's Runaway deliver one of their finest remixes, completely deconstructing "Here I Am" into a minimal disco banguh. Recommended.
