the patented lab review
lab informed suggestions
The 3rd single on Speak Recordings from Henry Maldonado. This former House 2 House member (Strictly Rhythm act that produced "Hypnotize Me" and other hits) has updated his sound, nestling into that NYC soft spot of disco, house, and new wave. "Ever After Hours" is the immediate burner here. It starts off all old school Chicago house and techno, but eventually morphs into a dark disco track. Complex, yes. I am also really digging "Did I Hear Movement," a throwback new wave instrumental that conjures images of New Order jam sessions. Lastly, check "The Yes and No," a balearic meets no-wave type midtempo-ish track. This single is getting played by In Flagranti, Ilija Rudman, Dennis Kane, and a bunch of other underground disco heads.
