the patented lab review lab informed suggestions
Blackboard Jungle Dub is one of the benchmark dub albums- an all-time great for reggae music, one of Lee Perry's most highly regarded and widely known works, and one of the very first all-dub albums to be released. This is a Lee Perry masterminded affair with a tight and extremely funky version of the Upsetters band laying down the tracks. At the time, Perry did not have a studio of his own, so legend has it that this was mixed down by the Dub Originator himself, King Tubby, with some obvious help from Scratch. Look no further than Dillinger's "Dub Organizer" for the proof, but Tubbs never sounded this far out. The combination of his mixing genius with Lee Perry's wild imagination makes just about ever cut on here an amazing slice of perfection. Checkout stuff like the popping "Fever" version called "Drum Rock," the title cut that is called "Black Panta" and its alternate version "V/S Panta Rock," a killer sax-belch version of "Pop Goes The Weasel" called "Jungle Jim," and the decidedly easy flow of "Dreamland Skank." They also include 4 bonus tracks here from the same time period, all of which are previously unreleased. Taste "Upsetter Rhythm #1" and chalk up another dub masterpiece respectfully reissued by Auralux.
