Jugoe Tracks That Missed The Boat, Vol.1 Digi-EP
diverse dubby downtempo styles, recommended
|
the lab review
I am loving the Bastard Jazz's form as of late. They're really pushing dubby beats into new territories. After introducing us to the digi-dub of Jhatari, the label has come back to one of its mainstays, Jugoe, who has come back with some future-forward downtempo. "Bittersweet(1)" is neck crackin dub material, the aural equivalent to coalmining and discovering some Rastafari genie named Barrington. "Ziggy" flips it even further with a slowed style that would sound at home on Hyperdub (ditto "Bad Man"). "Shotz" is yet another fold, as we get the Bastardized version of a disco track, don't adjust your bass levels. "Bootoo" is the most freshest sounding track here. It sounds like he's chopping up Tom Tom Club and mixing it with end of dial FM transmissions. I'm impressed. Recommended.
