Straight from the wall AC power contains all kinds of disturbances, power spikes, and other noise which can interfere and effect your sound. Some you can hear with the naked ear, but most of it sneaks in without notice, effecting your sound whether you hear it or not. This is obviously crucial for home studio work and mastering. The MP 800 removes this "dirty" power interference and balances the power supply, while at the same time removing amp-based line noise and other buzzes, clicks, etc generated by your gear.
The surge protection is another key element here with 1850 joules of protection (most standard $20 models are about 1000). It also features Monster's "Dual Mode" system which automatically disconnects all sources and sounds an alarm when there is a major spike in power.
And finally it breaks down to convenience. The MP 800 is split up into 8 outlets which are all clearly marked & color coded. So when you go to unplug your computer or mixer you'll know exactly which plug it is rather than wrestling with a mess of cables. It also features 3 ultra wide adaptor spaces, an angled plug with a 10 foot cord, and gold plated contacts to maximize power transfer.
