We've been trying to get this in to the shop for awhile now, but they're hard to come by (sold only in Japan). Luckily our Japanese connect came through with a batch! The Audio Technica AT-618 is a rare accessory for DJ's that demand top quality sound and performance from their records. This hefty unit sits atop the record on the turntable spindle and applies 600grams of weight, holding the record firmly in place while stabilizing the record and improving overall sound quality. This is especially useful when playing in loud clubs where bass vibrations may be an issue or when recording your vinyl into your computer (for a cleaner recording). I've seen Jamal and Saheer of Super Family use these everytime they play out (they swear by them). The AT618 also covers your labels if you're concerned with trainspotters. Best when used with high torque turntables (will not work well with belt drive decks). Recommended.

Authentic Wooden LP Picture Frame

These are actual antique wooden record frames. The wood has aged beautifully giving the frame a rich golden brown color. There is no glass on these frames, which in my opinion, is a superior way to display your favorite records. In addition, the frame features a slot opening on top, which allows you to switch out your records effortlessly. These are also super-easy to hang, just use a push-pin on the wall and the frame will naturally hang on it without any additional hardware. This is only lubricant endorsed by Rane. Used by big wig corporates like Boeing, Dolby, Honeywell, McIntosh. This is the legit synthetic solution used for moving surfaces and mechanims (faders, switches etc.). This 100% concentration droplet solution is recommended for re-lubrication after a full cleaning (which can be done with the Caig 5% spray or a light alcohol solution). These droplets give a smoother slide than the popular gun oil droplets and creates a bonding layer of wear-reducing, heat-resistant lubricant. To put it simply put this shit on your faders after you clean it and your faders will be smoother than when you first opened it.

Clear LP Picture Frame

I have to give Shota props for this find. Not to blow up his spot, but he is the real deal behind-the-scenes tastemaker here at the Lab (sorry Pete, but he's Japanese and you can't stop him) and I love his under the radar discoveries like this. These are simple, cost effective, and they make your LPs look great. The frame is entirely constructed of plastic (meaning the face and borders are all one piece which the record nestles into) and allows you to view the entire record sleeve without any of the edges being covered by the borders that you would find on a typical LP picture frame. It has three small plastic clips that keep the record in place, one of which rests on a nail for hanging. (Hint: A double LP fits perfectly in one of these, but if you want to give a single LP or 12" some shine, I would just suggest throwing an old Def Jam promo behind whatever you want to showcase to make it a little more snug.)

Imported straight from Japan (and hard to find anywhere else), this is Gakken's Premium Portable Theremin! For the ultimate in spaced out, spooky synthesizer noises, nothing beats a theremin. You've heard this thing used in movies all the time (especially during the eerie scenes) the theme to Star Trek, The Day The Earth Stood Still, and countless ambient and New Age records. This unique instrument require no-contact from the player and uses 2 antennas to sense your hands position which control the frequency oscillators and volume. It can produce some real alien sounding effects, or can mimic a violin pretty well (with some practice). This particular model features volume trim, master volume, pitch trim, an external output to connect to an amp, its own speaker and is battery operated so you can make music and perform anywhere. BPM 104 Beat Counter

NOTE: This beatcounter works best for music that is over 95 BPMs, and does not handle slower, more syncopated (ie hip hop) beats well.

The Grey BPM.104 is a fully automated, electronic beat counter. Just plug it in to your mixer (or any device with a line out), and it will give you a beats per minute reading accurate to 0.1bpm, all within approximately 2 seconds. This is most useful for active DJs, as you can just plug it into your headphone jack with the included cable and plug your headphones right into the Grey BPM.104. The design is also a strength with a hard metal casing and large retro-style red LED (visible in the darkest conditions). The only minor drawbacks are that the BPM.104 needs to plugged in to function (plug included), and the fact that it does not function well for slower breakbeats (it will often read as double-timed, so 80 bpm will come out at 160bpm). Includes carrying case, power plug, adaptor cord, and adaptor plug.

The top of the line record cleaner, the only thing better than this is using one of those $800 machines. The kit comes with 2 cleaning pads and a specially formulated spray cleaner. When used properly, the process cleans your records efficiently, removes static (you may also need to de-static your slipmats which can be done with de-static spray made for clothes) and improves the sound quality on any record. Gruv Glide even claims that with proper application, it will also improve tracking, which makes your records and your stylii last longer. The Monster MP Pro 800 is a professional level power center, ideally suited for home studio use or onstage. There are a few major differences between this power center and the average power strip you can find in any electronics store. First and foremost, the MP 800 provides "clean power" through Monster's Stage 1 V 2.0 system. Straight from the wall AC power contains all kinds of disturbances, power spikes, and other noise which can interfere and effect your sound. Some you can hear with the naked ear, but most of it sneaks in without notice, effecting your sound whether you hear it or not. This is obviously crucial for home studio work and mastering. The MP 800 removes this "dirty" power interference and balances the power supply, while at the same time removing amp-based line noise and other buzzes, clicks, etc generated by your gear.

The surge protection is another key element here with 1850 joules of protection (most standard $20 models are about 1000). It also features Monster's "Dual Mode" system which automatically disconnects all sources and sounds an alarm when there is a major spike in power.

And finally it breaks down to convenience. The MP 800 is split up into 8 outlets which are all clearly marked & color coded. So when you go to unplug your computer or mixer you'll know exactly which plug it is rather than wrestling with a mess of cables. It also features 3 ultra wide adaptor spaces, an angled plug with a 10 foot cord, and gold plated contacts to maximize power transfer.

Power supplies are often an overlooked part of studio set up, and if you are going to spend thousands on your equipment, it's worth spending a little bit more to get a secure and clean sounding power management center like the MP 800.

Looking at the Sefour record box, I cant help but draw comparisons to the TTL "Perfect Record Box" we carried a couple year ago. The two are pretty similar in design and looks, but unfortunately the TTL boxes are never coming back (sorry!), so the Sefour is currently your best option for classy vinyl storage. The Sefour box can store up to 60 vinyl LPs and features a simple, stackable design in a stylish black laminate finish that would not look out of place in the studio or lounge. CD Cleaning Kit

Simple and effective device for cleaning your CDs and DVDs. All you have to do is spray a couple drops of the included solution on the disc, close the lid and spin the handle a few times. Your discs will come out surprisingly clean, free from all dirt, fingerprints, grease, dust, etc. We tested this on multiple cds around the office, and it removed all but the most heavily impacted grime (even got a '92 edition of Nevermind shiny). It won't remove scratches of course, but this is great for everything else.
