Instrumental music. I don't want to hear anybody's voice except for who I'm with.

TITLE: Peanut Butter Wolf 7"
ARTIST: Peanut Butter Wolf
LABEL: Strength Magazine Promo

I usually play this record to trip people out. It was a 45 I put out with Stregnth that was actually some stuff I recorded with a band we called Peanut Butter Wolf in about 1989. My little brother who was about 10 years old at the time was our lead singer, but I did lead vocals on some songs as well. Our band was all freestyle and nobody knew what they were doing, but we had fun and talked a lot of shit.

TITLE: Hickeys Around My Neck 12"
ARTIST: Audio Two
LABEL:
Stones Throw White Label 2000

That has a good intro to play with when you have doubles of it. Babu used it for the Super Duck Breaks. The beats were stripped down, SP1200 boom bap shit. One of the most underrated producers on the beats.

TITLE: MHB's
ARTIST: Quasimoto
LABEL:
Elektra Test Press

Musically, a beauty song, but what he's talking about is pretty abrasive. I love playing both the vocal and inst. versions of this song.

TITLE: Spread Love
ARTIST: ?
LABEL: Bozo Meko Bootleg ?

I heard that 45 King made this bootleg, but he isn't credited for it. I remember when this first came out, all the producers I knew would sample the drum loop that was added to the song, to the point where they became known as the "Spread Love" drums, even though the real version of "Spread Love" doesn't have any breakbeat drums at all. It's a party rocker, but not too many people have it on the West Coast.

TITLE: Soft Parade
ARTIST:
The Doors
LABEL:
Elecktra

I only play part of this song as it is a long psychadelic track with several different movements. The singing is so confident and reminds me of either Larry Coryell or Beck.

TITLE: Drink Old Gold
ARTIST:
Mr. X & Mr. Z
LABEL:
Urban Rock Records 1997

Another track with the "Kalimba Tree" music. It's a cover of Rakim's "I Know You Got Soul". Just don't get caught playing it too long cuz the verses are long.

TITLE: Get Ready
ARTIST: Rare Earth
LABEL: Rare Earth/Motown 1969

Another good psychadelic, uptempo song. The bassline and drums go for quite a while.

TITLE: "Funk Box" from Lost Breakbeats vol.1+2
ARTIST:
Mark the 45 King
LABEL:
45 King Records 1993

Same drums as Ultra's "Give The Drummer Some." This is basically doing a cover of the Masterdon/Funkbox Commitee from around 1982. Whoever was singing on this version, has a strong raspy church voice and sounds about 50 years old. Masta P later did a cover as well with his famous "Uuuuhhh" song.

Sorry we lost the pic.

TITLE: Dedication to the Suckers 12"
ARTIST:
Phat Kat aka Ronnie Cash
LABEL:
House Shoe Records 2000

Stongest Jay Dee beat out right now. It's as catchy as East Flatbush Project. A song everybody knows, but only DJ's know who it is. People always come up to read the record when it's on.

TITLE: In Control Vol.1
ARTIST:
Marley Marl
LABEL:
Cold Chillin 1998

I like playing "Duck Alert", cuz nobody plays it and it's dope, but I also resort to the classic "Droppin Science" after a few drinks.

Biggie Smalls is the illest.
