Kaossilator Dynamic Phrase Synthesizer
OVERVIEW
The Kaossilator is a portable synthesizer that takes Korg's legendary synths and effects and combines it with their unique KAOSS pad technology to create an innovative pocket-sized instrument for beginners and pros alike. Simply tap or slide your finger across the touch pad for instant musical phrases and jams, drums, effects and more without a keyboard! Create songs on the fly with the loop recording feature and best of all, it's super portable size and battery powered operation allows you to create music anywhere.
FEATURES
For it's ultra-compact size, the Kaossilator packs a load of amazing features for music creation. It features a total of 100 powerful sound programs that combine Korg's legendary modeling synthesizer engine with the effects from the KAOSS Pad series for a variety of sounds that can match any music genre from disco to blues. The horizontal axis of the touch pad is assigned to note/pitch, while the vertical axis is assigned to parameters such as: cutoff, feedback, or modulation depth, giving you a wide range of performance possibilities. And in addition to classic synth sounds like leads, basses and sound effects, the Kaossilator also features faithfully simulated piano, guitar, trumpet and drums.
There is also a handy scale/key feature that allows you to play complex scales and phrases perfectly everytime with the slide of a finger! Choose from 31 different scales including chromatic, diminished, as well as major and minor blues and pentatonic scales, and unusual scales such as Spanish, Ryukyu and Raga. The scale function can be used in conjunction with the key setting function, allowing you to perform in any key. 50 types of gate arpeggiation for complex rhythmic patterns are also at your disposal allowing you to produce specific patterns of notes in sync with the tempo to greatly expand your performance options.
In addition, loop recording is also possible with the Kaossilator for multiple phrase overdubbing. All this in a battery operated, compact frame that you can fit in your pocket. Includes headphone out, RCA output and can run off optional power supply.
OUR OPINION
The Kaossilator provides an extremely fun, unique and easy way to create music anywhere without the use of bulky equipment. Beginners will love the ease of use (just a swipe of the finger!), while more seasoned producers will have fun playing synths and scales in a totally new way. Plus with the sound of the legendary Korg synths and the KAOSS pad, you know you are dealing with quality at a very affordable price.

MANUFACTURER'S REVIEW
As suggested by the name "Quad", this new Kaoss Pad lets you use up to four effects simultaneously. These effects can be synced to the beat of your music, to freely transform your song in realtime. Any audio source can be processed; an MP3 player, a mixing board, an instrument, even vocals via the mic input! The expressive performance potential that arises from the Kaoss Pad Quad leaves other effect units in the dust, and rapidly approaches the realm of an "instrument". The brilliant and colorful LED touchpad illumination adds a strong sense of individuality, further enhancing the Kaoss Pad Quad's unique character.
The Kaoss Pad Quad will enthrall everyone. The intense user can engage in highly technical performances; the casual user can enjoy DJ-like fun. Either way, the audience will be equally captivated. The interest and depth emanating from this new instrument is sure to touch every listener.
Dazzling, illuminated touchpad control
The intuitive interface that has helped to make the Korg Kaoss Series so popular is alive and well on the Kaoss Pad Quad. As you tap, slide, or move your finger across the X-Y touchpad, the effect parameters will change, producing dramatic realtime changes in the sound. One big change to the touchpad is brilliant LEDs that light up in an intense variety of colors. The illumination changes depending on the state of the effects, the BPM setting, and on your movements while performing. The DJ booth or stage will be brilliantly illuminated, visually boosting the excitement level!
Use up to four effects simultaneously for unimaginable expression
Kaoss Pad Quad lets you simultaneously control up to four effects from the touchpad. Each of the four effect modules - Looper; Modulation; Filter; and Delay/Reverb - contains five options (plus a null, or off position), for a total of 1,295 combinations! Best of all, effects can be chosen directly from the front panel, a more intuitive and physical process than on previous Kaoss Pad models. Enjoy trying your own Kaoss combinations and discovering ways to radically morph the sound.
By rhythmically adding successive effects, or switching effects on and off as your song progresses, you can use the Kaoss Pad Quad to add variation and development to the structure of your song. In other words, even a simple beat can potentially be transformed into a killer tune that will whip the dance floor into a frenzy. In addition to being an enormous asset to the professional, the Kaoss Pad Quad is also great fun for the casual user. It is extremely straightforward and easy to use; just touch the pad to apply effects. Connect a portable audio player or any audio source, and begin enjoying hours of sound creation and manipulation.
Freeze button offers hands-free effects
For each of the four effect modules, there's a Freeze button that memorizes the position at which you're touching the touchpad, causing that effect to be held even after you release your finger. If you touch the touchpad again while Freeze is enabled, only the non-frozen effects will be controlled. You can achieve even higher levels of performance freedom by using the four Freeze buttons in conjunction with the effect type buttons.
In addition to more traditional effects, the Kaoss Pad Quad offers many new types of effects:
Multi-Mode Looper
Use the touchpad to loop part of your song; the number of beats is controlled by the location you touched. Three types of looping are provided; the standard Looper; the Rev Looper (Reverse Looper) which plays the looped phrase backward; and the Loop Slicer, which divides the phrase and lets you loop-play only a specific portion. You can switch between the different looper types by sliding your finger up and down the touchpad as the loop plays, producing radical new beats on a whim. Using these sophisticated loop tools makes it easy to ignite a frenzy on the dance floor.
Vinyl Break turntable effects
The first effect lets you slide your finger up and down on the touchpad to simulate the scratch sounds that can be produced on a turntable. Next, if you leave your finger on the touchpad without moving it, you can also create the effect of gradually slowing the playback speed to a stop, just as when you stop the rotation of a turntable. This realistic sound is highly usable as part of a DJ performance, allowing even a beginner to feel like an experienced DJ.
Ducking Comp transforms the playback
This creates the distinctive "ducking compressor" effects that have become a staple in music production. By boosting the sound level during off-beats of the kick drum, this effect can expressively transform your sound in very musical ways.
Stay in Sync
The proprietary Auto BPM engine automatically detects the tempo/BPM (Beats Per Minute) of the song that's playing or the audio source. Using this function allows BPM effects such as delay to remain in sync with the song. Tap Tempo is also provided; you can press the TAP button several times at the desired tempo to set the appropriate BPM value even for a song that does not have a strong rhythmic feel or whose BPM is difficult to detect. You can also use the BPM knob to make fine adjustments.

Korg
MicroKorg Synthesizer + Vocoder
OVERVIEW
Korg has shaken up the synthesizer market with this amazingly priced, multi-function production tool. The microKorg is both a multi-timbral virtual analog synthesizer and a 4 voice vocoder in one very affordable, portable package.
The synth portion can be used to design analog drums, deep bass, atmospheric keys, weird sound effects and everything in between. It is designed like an analog synthesizer for easy manipulation of the sound, and quick access to the controls.
The vocoder produces a vocal effect that has been used with great results by everyone from Stevie Wonder and Roger Troutman to Dr. Dre and Daft Punk. The same knobs control the vocoder, again giving you quick access and easy manipulation of the sound.
FEATURES
The Synthesizer: The microKorg comes with 128 preset sound sources that can be tweaked infinitely, by patching different effects into the mix. 2 oscillators, plus a noise generator produce the sound on the synth.
The Vocoder: The microKorg comes with a mic, but if you prefer, there are 2-1/4" inputs on the rear to plug in your own microphone or other sound source (drums, keys, etc.). The sound is then grouped with an oscillator, a noise generator and 8 channels of Vocoder to get the desired effect.
Effects: 6 types of arpeggiator are included to extend your sounds. Other effects include the standard filter cut-off and resonance controls, attack and release, and a tempo control as well as LFO's, modulation, delays, EQ and a lot more.
General: The back panel has MIDI in, out and thru, 2 lines of audio in, L/Mono, R and headphone outputs. The keyboard is made up of 37 mini-size keys, with an octave shift control.
OUR OPINION
I have heard and seen (in photos) that the microKorg is the Neptunes secret little weapon. The Vocoder section is extremely helpful in today's electronic based music mediums, especially if you're working with a bad singer. It is easy to use and even easier to manipulate a voice through. Try putting drums or a loop through it, and get something completely different. The Synthesizer section is a bit more complicated. It will take a good bit of reading and playing around to fully understand how your actions are affecting the sounds that are coming out. But the analog style controls let you tweak the sounds easily and hear an immediate difference.
Overall it may take a while to get the full grasp of how the microKorg works. However, once you have a basic understanding, it is an extremely powerful machine with infinite sound synthesis possibilities. On top of that throw in the vocoder, and this becomes one of the best values in the market.

Korg
MicroKorg XL Synthesizer + Vocoder
OVERVIEW
The original microkorg was a breakthrough for musicians and synth lovers alike when it came out 5 years ago, enabling everyone to experience a great synthesizer and enjoy Korg's renowned sound at an affordable price. It has remained a constant best-seller and is still very popular. Now Korg has packed even more advanced features as well as a cutting edge sound engine with powerful effects and a beefed up vocoder into the microkorg XL, a great step up from the old microkorg without breaking the bank.
FEATURES
SYNTH
The microkorg XL boasts Korg's powerful RADIAS/R3 derived MMT Multi Modeling Technology for a robust range of sounds and advanced analog re-creations. There are 128 quality presets available right out of the box, which are easily accessed via the two large dials on the front of the unit. The first selects the musical genre, while the second defines the instrument category. For the diehard synthesists and sound designers, you can use the three performance edit knobs for fast, effective editing in performance. Two multi-mode filters, a drive/waveshaping circuit for distinctively distorted sounds, and EG and LFO for creating time-varying tonal change, provide plenty of parameters for serious synthesis. Virtual Patching simulates the patching capability of Korg's classic MS series, and the arpeggiator can run six types of patterns, all adding up to a high degree of creative freedom. There's also an external audio input jack, so you can process external audio material from a sampler or other source device. In the full-edit mode you have unlimited access to all of the microKORG XL's synthesis parameters.
EFFECTS
The two master effect processors were perfected on our KAOSS series. These up-to-the-minute effects go far beyond traditional delay and chorus, delivering a total of 17 powerful algorithms, including ring modulation and a grain shifter. In addition, delay effects can be synchronized to MIDI clock for expanded possibilities in a live performance and other "beat-sensitive" situations.
VOCODER
Using a microphone, the microKORG XL's amazing vocoder allows you to add vocal characteristics to any sound, creating everything from "talk-box" filtering, pseudo choirs, talking instruments and vintage Sci-Fi robots. You can also use another instrument - such as a drum machine - to add rhythmic dexterity to your synth tracks. Our unique Formant Hold allows you to freeze the vocal input for continuous vocoder effects. In addition to simulating the classic vocoder sounds of the past, the microKORG XL also allows you to shift the filter frequencies (Formant Shift function) and adjust the level and pan of each of the sixteen bands, greatly altering the tonal character. This allows you to easily create fascinating textures and sounds that go far beyond traditional vocoding. A gooseneck microphone is included, so you can immediately start using these superb vocoder functions.
OUR OPINION
If you've love the microkorg, but want to step up your synth game, the microkorg XL is the next logical step. You get bigger, bolder, more expressive sounds and effects (especially with the advanced MMT technology)to take your production to the next level. The high quality mic (included) makes for more impressive vocoder action and the effects are stunning. Think of it as the best features from the R3 combined with the ease of use of the microkorg. The beauty of this machine is for the amount of features and endless capabilities, it is still very affordable and can be appreciated by beginners and advanced sound designers alike. Recommended.

MicroSampler Sampling Keyboard
versatile sampling keyboard and sequencer
OVERVIEW
Korg's microSampler delivers multi-mode sampling, resampling, Pattern Sequencing and over-the-top effects all under a fun-to-use intuitive interface. More than your typical sampler, the microSampler is a complete sound design studio for creating loops, phrases, and much more.
FEATURES
The microSAMPLER hosts a solid complement of top-end sampling features to expand your creative potential. This full-fledged instrument offers fourteen-voice polyphony, reverse playback, editing operations such as Normalize and Truncate, and a Time Stretch feature that lets you change the tempo without affecting the pitch. Selectable sample rates of 48 kHz, 24 kHz, 12 kHz, and down to 6 kHz let you sample at rates beyond CD clarity or add in that Lo-Fi vintage vibe. Each bank contains 36 samples (a maximum of approximately 160 seconds of recording time for monaural samples at a 48 kHz sampling rate) and sixteen patterns of sequence data; the microSAMPLER lets you store eight such banks in internal memory. The Keyboard mode takes a single sample and assigns it chromatically across the keys for instant playability. With its recessed controls, bright LEDs and informative display, the microSAMPLER is fun to use and easy to operate for beginners or seasoned pros.
SAMPLING
Five distinct sampling methods allow you to work the way you want, to get the results you need. The microSAMPLER offers traditional One-Shot and Loop sampling, plus a number of creative sampling modes: Loop, Key Gate and Auto-Next. When it comes to sampling, the microSAMPLER is a versatile and unique tool.
- Loop sampling for recording grooves and phrases, drum loops, etc.
- One-Shot sampling for grabbing and triggering single events such as drums, etc
- Gate sampling for playing a sound musically across the keyboard
- Auto-Next sampling for capturing phrases as multiple samples
- Key Gate sampling is best for grabbing multiple samples from the same source
There's a resampling function that lets you play existing layered samples processed by an effect and played by the pattern sequencer and capture it all as a new sample. You can even sample while playing, allowing the sampling process itself to become part of your expressive performance.
PATTERN SEQUENCER
The pattern sequencer uses an overdub operating style that lets you continually layer your performances. You can switch between patterns during playback for seamless performances. Up to sixteen patterns (16,000 notes per pattern, or a maximum 64,000 notes) can be stored in each bank.
KAOSS EFFECTS
Developed for Korg's KAOSS PAD series, the effect engine serves up a great selection of effects so important when editing samples. The twenty-one effects include not only traditional delay and chorus, but also ring modulator and grain shifter, and even a Looper that's derived from the Loop Recording feature of the KAOSSILATOR Dynamic Phrase Synthesizer. The effects can be applied to any sound while resampling, allowing the effects to be used over and over again for more sonic expression.
In addition, the microSampler features USB connectivity with editing via free editor/librarian software as well as importing of WAV/AIFF data. The keyboard runs on a wall adaptor but is also portable and can be powered by 6 AAA batteries.

Mini-KP Kaoss Pad
The Mini-KP takes the best features of the popular Kaoss Pad and places them in an extremely portable pocket-sized body. 100 effects are available at your fingertips (realtime) including filter, delay, and looper as well as numerous BPM effects that utilize the "TAP/BPM" button to synchronize to your song's tempo. There is also an "FX release" function that offers a natural decay of the effect when changing effects and memory, and memory capabilities. All this in a battery powered unit that is an ideal choice for practice at home, in the studio, or performance in the club.
FEATURES
Just like it's big brother the KP3, the main feature of the Mini-KP is its
touch-sensitive control surface. Simply touch the surface and you activate the effect; drag your finger and it changes the parameters of your effect. Move it up and down to control one parameter, left and right for another, or even diagonal to control 2 parameters simultaneously. It's so easy to use that you really don't need to know what you're doing at all, and you will be able to master some cool sounds in about 10 seconds. Everything is done in realtime too, so you will here the effect instantaneously.
The Mini-KP features a total of 100 effects, many derived from the larger KP3, including filter, delay, and a looper. But especially effective for creative mixing is the "low/high-band pass filter" that lets you cut specific frequency ranges of sound (cut the bass out or the highs), the "decimator" that intentionally degrades the audio quality of the input to give unique impact to the sound, a much-requested "delay & reverb" combination effect (for that smooth echoed out mix effect), and the "looper & pitch shifter" that captures and repeats incoming audio, retuning it in real-time as the pad is manipulated. In addition, there are some synth sounds derived from the KP3 and many more effects that can dramatically add to your sound.
Another important feature is the built-in BPM engine. You can use the "TAP/BPM button" to detect the BPM and synchronize the Mini-KP to an audio input source, and then take advantage of the many BPM effects that are synchronized to your song or performance. There's also an "FX RELEASE" function that lets the effect sound decay gradually when you remove your finger from the pad or change effects. This makes it easy for smooth and natural sounding blending of the mini-KP's effects into your performance or mix.
Lastly is the "Hold" function that lets you fix the effect settings at a given moment, and indispensable memory keys that allow you to save your favorite settings. If you're touching the pad to apply an effect, you can use the "Hold" function to "freeze" the effect settings at any desired point. The Memory Key function lets you memorize the selected effect program, the Hold function's on/off status, and the effect depth. This lets you store your favorite effect settings for instant recall anytime.
OUR OPINION
Just like it's bigger brothers, the Mini-KP is an excellent effects unit for live DJ sets with its ease of use, hands-on control and countless effects options. With it's small size and battery operation, you can feel confident bringing it anywhere - from the home studio to the club. In addition, the Mini-KP is excellent for BPMing your records, and adding effects to your mixes. For music production, the Mini-KP offers a inexpensive way to further alter your sounds with quality Korg effects. The Mini-KP is a quality effects unit that is extremely flexibile and extremely portable.

MANUFACTURER'S REVIEW
In a world seemingly ruled by digital, Korg created an analog sensation with the palm-sized monotron Analogue Ribbon Synthesizer. Korg has once again raised the analog banner with the amazing monotribe Analog Ribbon Station; a new form of synthesizer that packs an amazing array of features and technology into its compact body. Korg's monotribe shares the monotron's analog DNA, yet quickly delves deeper into the rich, organic, and often chaotic world of analog synthesis. In addition to analog synthesis, monotribe brings together intuitive ease of use and a three-part discrete analog rhythm section, plus the proven appeal of Electribe-style sequencing. Complete with a built-in speaker and battery power, monotribe is self-contained and highly portable.
LAB REVIEW
Korg puts the power of real analog synthesis in the palm of your hand with
the Monotribe. In a time when the prices of vintage analog synths are steadily rising daily (expect to pay more than the price of your MacBook for a decent one), the Monotribe is a steal, especially when you consider it combines a true analog synth, drum machine, AND a sequencer. Add to that the authentic MS-20 filter (an original MS-20 will cost you over $1500) and you've got a real powerhouse of a unit in a compact and portable frame.
RECOMMENDED.

LAB POINTS
- full-fledged, true analog synthesizer w/ VCO, VCF, LFO
- features the same classic analog filter found in the legendary Korg MS-10 & MS-20
- filter any external source using the audio input jack
- easy-to-play ribbon keyboard
- fun-to-tweak controls
- LFO can modulate either pitch of filter cutoff
- LFO Rate knob features LED visual indicator
- battery operation, pocket sized
- internal speaker/headphone jack lets you enjoy the sound anywhere
MANUFACTURER'S REVIEW
Analog synths were once massive, temperamental monsters; but no more! The true analog monotron fits in your pocket and is ready to play anytime, anyplace. Although small enough to hold in one hand, the amazing monotron delivers ginormous and dazzling sounds. Best of all, it's a blast to play. The controls have been streamlined for ease of use. Concentrating on the most important sound parameters, the panel contains only five knobs and one switch. With this level of simplicity, now anyone can easily enjoy the world of analog synthesizers.
Ribbon controller keyboard offers easy expression
Borrowing the enjoyment of performing with a simple touch from Korg's wildly popular KAOSS products, the monotron's ribbon controller keyboard takes this ease of use even farther. Simple finger gestures can produce expressive effects such as vibrato and glide.
1VCO, 1VCF, 1LFO - Modular synthesis building blocks
The monotron's circuit is radically simple: one voltage-controlled oscillator, one voltage-controlled filter, and one low frequency oscillator. As a result, the process of sound creation is intuitive, and instantly understandable. And it's tons of fun. The monotron provides the joy of sonic creativity that's at the heart of analog synthesis.
The famous Korg filter
The monotron starts with the same highly acclaimed VCF circuit as KORG's classic MS-10 and original MS-20 semi modular synthesizers, and adds extra oomph to the resonance. Originally released over 30 years ago, these instruments are still coveted today for their aggressive, dynamic filters. The VCF Cutoff knob sets the frequency or tone of the filter; the VCF Peak (resonance) knob adds emphasis.
Semi modular satisfaction
Just as on the original MS-20, the monotron's filter can be "patched into," allowing any external audio source to be processed by the monotron's filter. The input jack (AUX input) built into the monotron's compact body inserts the AUX input into the signal path right before the VCF. This provides a great way to connect a KAOSSILATOR, a keyboard, a guitar, a digital audio player or even an un-mixed track to the monotron and enjoy tone-bending filter effects.
Versatile LFO provides audio and visual excitement!
The LFO (Low Frequency Oscillator) can affect either the oscillator pitch or the filter cutoff. Both the speed and the intensity are individually adjustable, so you can create anything from a gentle vibrato to swooping tone changes of galactic proportions. As you turn the LFO Rate knob, featuring an embedded LED, the speed of the modulation effect and the speed of the blinking LED will change in tandem.
Listen anywhere - alone or with friends
The ultimate in compactness, the monotron includes a built-in miniature speaker. Along with the battery operation, this feature allows you to enjoy the monotron everywhere. There's also a headphone output that you can use when creating sounds at home, for recording, or for connecting to an amplifier or PA system.

NanoKey 2 Slim-Line USB Keyboard - Black
ultra compact USB midi controller
LAB POINTS
- low-profile, 25-key USB-MIDI keyboard
- ultra compact size ideal for use with laptop and netbook computers
- advanced-design keybed offers improved accuracy and velocity-sensitive keys
- sustain button - ideal for entering piano parts
- control buttons provide simple yet versatile control
- USB power for an uncluttered setup
MANUFACTURER'S REVIEW
The nanoKEY2 features an advanced and up-to-date design. By combining the great-feeling "touch" that Korg has developed for its professional MIDI keyboards and the low-profile "thinness" of recent computer keyboard innovations, the nanoKEY2 provides a superior keyboard response for its class and size. It's designed with ample key width and plenty of space between the keys, reducing the chances of a wrong note. The touch and velocity response have been carefully tuned, as only a manufacturer with Korg's track record and know-how can, ensuring that your expressive performance will be conveyed accurately to your software.
The Octave Shift buttons - borrowed from Korg's MIDI controllers - allow the overall pitch to be shifted four levels, either UP or DOWN, in octave increments. For enhanced performances, the nanoKEY2 also provides Pitch Bend buttons, a Modulation button, and a Sustain button, one that's indispensible for piano or electric piano performance. For each of these buttons, the on/off switching speed can be specified over four levels (using the Korg Kontrol Editor), ensuring the smooth changes that are appropriate for your performance.
The nanoKEY2 works with the "Korg Kontrol Editor" software, available free on the Korg website. Load it into your computer, and use it to make detailed customized settings. Choose from a total of four velocity settings: three velocity curves or fixed velocity; specify the control change messages transmitted by the modulation button and the sustain button.
Just connect a single USB cable from your computer to the nanoKEY2, and you've got a quick and portable music production system. Power and USB-MIDI data travels down the same wire for a clean, efficient workspace.

- ultra compact size ideal for use with laptop and netbook computers
- new track select and marker advance parameters
- numerous assignable knobs, sliders, and buttons

MANUFACTURER'S REVIEW
In a body proportioned to fit perfectly in front of your laptop computer, the nanoKONTROL2 provides eight channels of the controllers you need to control your music software. The nanoKONTROL2 also features a dedicated transport control section. The buttons have been carefully selected to be useful with your software, ensuring simple and intuitive control. Many software titles â" including major DAW programs â" are supported, dramatically reducing the need to make complicated connection settings.
A knob, fader, and three switches are provided for each of the eight channels, respectively assigned to pan, volume, and solo/mute/record. This arrangement is a real convenience when recording automation for multiple channels. There's also a marker button, making it easy to assign marks at important points in your song for more efficient recording and song production. When using a software synthesizer, you can assign parameters to the desired controllers for easy control. For example you could use the faders to control the ADSR of an envelope generator, and use the knobs to control the filter's cutoff frequency and resonance, etc.
The nanoKONTROL2 works with the "Korg Kontrol Editor" software â" available free on the Korg website. Load it into your computer, and use it to make detailed customized settings. For example, the minimum and maximum values for each control change message can be specified.
Just connect a single USB cable from your computer to the nanoKONTROL2, and you've got a quick and portable music production system. Power and USB-MIDI data travels down the same wire for a clean, efficient workspace.

NanoKontrol Slim-Line USB Controller (Vers. 1)
OVERVIEW
Korg's Nano series are the most compact USB-MIDI controllers on the market. These slim line controllers give you versatile control over your programs in the studio, at home, or on the road at a very affordable price. This is the highly functional Kontrol version with a variety of assignable knobs, buttons, and sliders.
FEATURES
The nanoKONTROL is a bus powered USB-MIDI controller featuring 9 knobs, 9 sliders, 18 buttons, and a full set of transport buttons all in an ultra compact and slim frame about the width of most laptops. The nanoKONTROL also boasts 4 user scene memories and corresponding buttons. Use the nanoKONTROL for versatile control over your DAW, virtual instrument/effect or DJ software.
OUR OPINION
If you're looking for an extremely portable USB-MIDI controller at an affordable price, look no further. You cannot get much smaller than the nanoKONTROL, but despite its small size, it has features that are comparable with much bulkier and higher priced controllers. All the assignable knobs, sliders, and buttons are especially useful for live remixing or digital DJing with your application of choice. Recommended.

- low-profile pad controller, excellent for playing or entering drum data
- ultra compact size ideal for use with laptop and netbook computers
- 16 solid, responsive, and velocity-sensitive trigger pads
- dynamic trigger pads capture all your performance nuances

MANUFACTURER'S REVIEW
Like all nanoSERIES2 controllers, the nanoPAD2 had to be compact, lightweight and sized to work well with any laptop or desktop computer. In addition, the nanoPAD2 also had to pack in 16 great-feeling and dynamic-sensing pads â" as well as leaving room for the X-Y touchpad! The Korg nanoPAD2 does all this and more. In fact, there are four banks of pad assignments, providing a total of 64 pad assignments.
The sixteen velocity-sensitive pads provide excellent response to your fingertips, and also realistically convey the playing feel to your sequencer or DAW software, ensuring that your drum parts will be full of life. By switching between the four scenes, you can experience 64 different pad assignments.
Create musical phrases using the X-Y touchpad, Touch Scale, and Gate Arp features
The X-Y pad can be used to control multiple synthesizer parameters. In addition, the new "Touch Scaleâ function lets you intuitively play phrases on the X-Y touchpad, just as on the Kaossilator. You can choose from sixteen different scales, and specify the root key and note range to ensure that your performance stays within your song. The "Gate Arpâ function, borrowed from the Kaossilator Pro, transmits note data based on tempo; Tap tempo and tempo sync are supported. Combined with the Touch Scale, the Gate Arp allows you to play tempo-synchronized phrases and rhythms simply by stroking the X-Y pad or playing the pads.
The nanoPAD2 works with the "Korg Kontrol Editor" software â" available free on the Korg website. Load it into your computer, and use it to make detailed customized settings. Choose from a total of four velocity settings: three velocity curves or fixed velocity. You can also specify note numbers, create user scales for the Touch Scale function, assign chords, assign control change messages, and save your settings.
Just connect a single USB cable from your computer to the nanoPAD2, and you've got a quick and portable music production system. Power and USB-MIDI data travels down the same wire for a clean, efficient workspace.
