The DIY heads at Gakken have done it again, this time with a miniature guitar! The guitar features real electronic circuitry, a pick up, 1/4" output and four strings. The assembly instructions are in japanese, but they're heavily illustrated (if you can build furniture from Ikea, this should be no problem), and best of all there's no soldering required! Comes with a history of electric guitars as well as tablature for popular rock songs as well as traditional songs. Recommended.

Updated version of the popular the Remote Zero SL. The MKII is a robust controller that combines the features of a drum pad controller and a slider/knob controller with a huge and informative backlit display system (displays control information to user). In addition, the Zero SL MKII also features intuitive plug-in mapping thanks to Automap 3 PRO and advanced software control.

FEATURES
The Zero SL MKII features a huge array of touch-sensitive controls - broken down into 8 Encoders (Infinite Rotation) with touch-sensitivity and 11 segment Led rings, 8 Pots (270 Rotation) with touch-sensitivity, 8 60mm Sliders with touch-sensitivity, 32 Buttons with integrated LEDs (37 in MIDI mode), 8 soft feel Trigger pads, and a crossfader - giving you total control on stage or in the studio. There is also a giant 144-character ultra-bright LCD screen that displays all the parameter names and values for the currently selected row of controllers. All 8 faders and 16 knobs are touch sensitive, so the moment one is touched, the display shows the names and values on that row and puts brackets around the controller that is currently being touched. This enables the user to see which parameter is assigned to the controller without having to change the value, or refer to their software. ZeRO SL Mk II also has a dedicated 'Speed Dial' knob, which can be used to change the value of any parameter the cursor is positioned over without making any assignments whatsoever (as seen on the Nocturn). In addition, SL Mk II comes with Automap 3 Pro software which enables you to instantly and intelligently map software parameters to faders, buttons, encoders and pots and other controllers, eliminating all mapping headaches as well as a free software bundle with loops, soft synths and Ableton Live 7 Lite. Breaktionary 2CD

This double disc set features BOTH a Qbert breaks mix and all four volumes of the super-popular Breaktionary series. On the first disc, Qbert shows the true power of his visionary break tool series by creating a 1 hour and 15 minutes non-stops breaks orgy using only the Breaktionaries. It sounds like the maddest funk 45 dj set ever (think Cut Chemist, Shadow, Numark, doing a set on Ritalin and Crank). This set is very similar to the sets that Qbert uses at b-boys battles, I can only imagine the hysteria. The second disc features all 4 volumes of the Breaktionary series in their entirety. This is excellent for DJs, but it should be pointed out that producers could quadruple their break library with this. Recommended.

All in all it is still a very complete and profesional digital DJ solution at a great price. Recommended.

Ultimate Breaks & Beats: The Complete Collection 2CD+DVD

The ultimate spoiler! Street Beat's immortal Ultimate Breaks & Beats series has been a staple in the Lab and DJs lives for years, and now that the series is seemingly over and done, they've gone all out on this box set. This set contains EVERY VOLUME (#1-25) that UBB ever released, with every track remastered and presented in high-quality digital files. The two CDs contain 192kbps MP3 files, while the DVD contains AIFF files and 300dpi JPGs of every UBB cover. In addition, all the files come pre-loaded with BPM info, year of release and cover artwork. If that wasn't enough, it all comes in a chunky 3CD digipak with a 68-page booklet(!) that features the front and back of every UBB volume, as well as the true story of how UBB began. Needless to say, this is a huge boon (not to mention a time-saver) for a lot of Serato DJs, but you don't even need to be a DJ to appreciate this shit: load 'em on to your iPod and take a stroll down to the old soda shop, or whatever the kids are doing nowadays. I gotta say, for 12 hours of music, this ain't a bad deal at all. 174 tracks; 12 hours total.

OVERVIEW
The MPD32 is a MIDI-over-USB performance pad controller for DJs, programmers, producers, and musicians. Built around the controls and technology from Akai Professional's industry-standard MPC series, the MPD32 is an expressive and intuitive instrument for the studio and stage.

FEATURES
The heart of the MPD32 is its bank of 16 velocity and pressure-sensitive MPC pads. You can access four different banks of sounds from the MPC pads for a total of 64 sounds at your fingertips. The MPD32 also borrows the MPC series' assignable Q-Link controllers, enabling you to control nearly any parameters in your software in real time. You get eight assignable Q-Link faders, eight assignable Q-Link 360° knobs, and eight assignable Q-Link buttons so you'll spend less time with the mouse and more time making music. Even better, each Q-Link can access three different parameters for a total of 72 real-time Q-Links. You also get two assignable footswitch inputs and an expression-pedal input for even more ways to control and perform with the MPD32. The MPD32 also gives you a dedicated set of transport controls for instant access to the most commonly used DAW or sequencing-software controls.

While the MPC pads and Q-Links might be the heart of the MPD32, its brain is transplanted directly from the MPC. That's because the MPD32 is not just a control surface; it contains some of the key MPC technologies that have made the MPC the de facto standard it is. MPC Note Repeat is a capability that enables the MPD (or MPC) to automatically play a rhythm pattern, such as 16th notes on a hi-hat, for accuracy and speed of entry. MPC Swing is sometimes referred to as "the heart and soul of hip hop" because it turns perfectly aligned sequences into human-feeling time alignments. You can specify exactly the degree and timing of swing you want to apply for the perfect feel. The MPD32 also has MPC Full Level and MPC 16-Level on its pads.

The MPD32 sends MIDI information over its plug-and-play USB interface so you can use it with your Mac or PC without installing any drivers. The USB connection even powers the MPD32 so the included USB cable is all you need. It comes with a custom versions of Ableton Live Lite and FXpansion BFD Lite software so you can start creating right out of the box. In addition to Live and nearly any other MIDI software, you can also drive any MIDI hardware, such as synths, sound modules, samplers, sequencers, drum machines, and more. Recommended.

This is the largest of the series, the Rokit 8 model, and features a 8" glass aramiad composite woofer, an adjustable gain range of +6dB to -30dB, a recessed 1" neodymuim soft dome tweeter with wave guide, high frequency control to adjust for specific room accoustics, radically engineered curved surfaces for a wider "sweet spot," clean and accurate bass performance from front firing ports, and custom drivers in a bi-amplified that provides discrete low-distortion power for each driver. XLR, RCA and 1/4" TRS (balanced/unbalanced) inputs are available in the rear of the units.

OUR OPINION
Rokit's are some the best selling monitors in the country, and for good reason. The combination of performance and price point make these a welcome addition to the studio. The 8 model features biggest bump of the three, with big 8" woofers and 20wattHF/70wattLF of power. Recommended.

The dac 25.2 has 4 digital inputs which can accept any coax (s/pdif), optical, XLR (AES/EBU), or USB digital input from an iPod transport, computer, media server, sonos, squeezebox, CD/DVD in stereo transport, or music hall’s own cd 25.2 compact disc player, and it will output two channel stereo analog. The DAC 25.2 features the latest texas instruments (formerly burr-brown) PCM 1796 24bit/192kHz, advanced segment, stereo audio digital to analog converter. This processor features 123dB dynamic range an 8 x oversampling digital filter and just 0.0005% thd. The DAC 25.2 upsamples to either 96kHz or 192kHz which is user selectable on the front panel. To achieve the best sound Music Hall uses an advanced asynchronous reclocking and anti jitter control system upstream of the PCM 1796 DAC. For this system they are using the philips 74HC574 in conjunction with the ti SRC4192 asynchronous sample rate converter whose master clock is a high precision active crystal oscillator. The DAC 25.2 also features a large r-core high current oversize power transformer with headphone output for convenient personal listening.
