OVERVIEW
Korg enters the basic USB controller market with the K-Series. Korg has been making keyboards longer than any controller company on the market; and they've taken their expertise and applied it to the series, creating a great feeling, very affordable controller. This is the 61 key version, excellent for small home studios or full size studios. It features full sized keys and a selection of four velocity curves to adjust to the individual's playing style (including a fixed level – great for keyboard novices).

FEATURES
Additional features include pitch blend and modulation wheels, and a joystick which can control X/Y or work as a mouse to control on-screen setup. Two assignable switches can be set to either momentary or toggle operation, and both On and Off values can be set. These switches can be set as Program Change up and down buttons. A pair of knobs can be assigned independently to any controller, and both transmit the full range of values. The K49 also features an assignable slider. And if you need hands-free control, the K-Series also includes an assignable foot switch input on the back panel.

Since May 2007, until further notice, the K61 and K61P controllers are coming bundled with the following cutting edge software products: Live Lite 6 Korg Edition, SampleTank 2 Korg Edition which comes with over 150 MB of custom sounds, UVI Korg Edition with 700 MB of drum kits and sounds, Reason Adapted 3.0 for Korg, and the MDE-X which contains a full version of the Korg Legacy Collection's multi-effect plug-in software(For units purchased after May 2007, check the Korg website to download a redemption form).
The K61 also comes with free editor software so you can create and save custom controller assignments – or scenes – in an easy, visual manner. In addition, the K-Series comes with with a free M1 Le software synthesizer. The M1 was introduced back in 1988 and went on to become the best selling synthesizer of all time. This software version perfectly reproduces the original M1 while taking advantage of the power and benefits of your computer interface.

OUR OPINION
The K-Series is an excellent choice for those who like their controllers straight-forward, clean, and simple. These controllers are great for beginners and advanced musicians alike, offering excellent feel at this price range. The inclusion of the editor program and the M1 Le software makes this an excellent all-around purchase.
