The LStand is designed to elevate your laptop over your DJ setup, eliminating the "where do I put my laptop while I DJ" problem. In addition the height-adjustable, elevated angle gives you easier access to your laptop controls. The LStand works as a stand-alone component as well as an extension for a dj coffin or table. Remove the two bottom supports and replace them with the included clamps, and the LStand will attach onto any surface up to 2 1/8" thick. The clamps can angled in 2 different directions, allowing you to attach it both to a flat table or the vertical side of a DJ coffin. When not in use, the LStand conveniently folds flat into the box that it comes in. There are several differences with the LStand and the HiRise stands. First, as mentioned, the HiRise can be used in several different situations, while the HiRise only works as a stand-alone component. Secondly, the LStand is much heavier than the HiRise (5.5 vs 1.5 lbs in the box). Depending on your situation, this can work for or against you. The extra weight will provide a sturdier surface, but at the expense of 4 traveling pounds. In addition, boxes to both models serve as the carrying case. The HiRise case is made of a sturdy lightweight plastic. The LStand comes in a cardboard case which will not stand up to frequent travel. Lastly, the LStand comes in at a more inexpensive price. It was designed with sampling-based producers in mind so you won't find most of these features in your average software or samplers. The time it will save on you working with loops make it a strong addition to any music studio. USES • easily chop samples • eq + effect samples NEW 2.1 FEATURES • MAC OSX compatible • includes Reason Adapted and Reload • full 24-bit audio resolution (previously limited to 16-bit) • multiple undos. FEATURES First you must understand what "chopping up" means. When something is "chopped" it means the producer took a loop (drums, bass, horns, whatever), cut it into different pieces and replayed the separate pieces in a different order or at a different tempo. While the SP, MPC and ASR made this process famous, ReCycle makes it very easy. After importing your WAV. or AIFF. loop into ReCycle, the program slices your sound recording into little pieces so that each drum hit (or whatever sound you are working with) gets its own slice that can be played independently of the rest of the loop. This slicing can either be performed manually by you, or automatically by letting the computer analyze the sample and make the most logical rhythmic since of the loop. After these slices are made each one is assigned to a different key on your midi-controller(keyboard or drum pads) from which you can trigger the slice in what ever order and pattern you desire. You also can change tempo by replaying or editing the slices to whatever tempo you prefer, without losing any of the original sound character. On-screen signal processors include: Compressor, EQ and Transient Designer, to give the drums more punch and distinction. Recycle-created files are easy to import into Reason, Cubase, and other production programs, just save it as a REX2. ReCycle can also be connected to hardware samplers (depending on the sampler's capabilities). OUR OPINION Recycle is an invaluable tool for producers who sample drums and loops. You'll save an incredible amount of time in this usually tedious process. For Reason users, this Recycle is easily integrates to your system, make it that much more powerful. The Table Cloth's thin, felt like construction and slick underside give you excellent control over the record especially for scratching. Includes 2 Table Cloths and 4 slip sheets which are thin plastic sheets that you place between the platter and slipmat for even more slickness and control, similar to Flying Carpets. Recommended. This remix so far surpasses the overwrought album version it's not even funny. It's strange: with the original backing track, the vocals sound corny and laughably melodramatic. With this one-drop backing and Jr. Reid's call and response, it's transported into an honestly moving track. That analysis out of the way, let it be known that this is another massive Caribbean chart-topper and not an easy single to track down. For some, that was the introduction into his tribalistic urban style which has now grown into an art monster. Since then, he's been gettin' real busy gracing galleries with his huge murals, large totems, interactive installations, and abstract characters. It's was a real treat to see his stuff live back in 2004. His painstaking tribal patterns are the perfect balance of positive and negative space. I don't know, but I just got back from a couple weeks DJing in the Caribbean (I know, it's a tough life) and this track was absolutely murdering it everywhere. Though it's been out for a while now, it's still gaining mainstream steam over here. Regardless of popularity (and it's huge), "Blind To You(1)" is one monster of a song: righteous lyrics, cool and deadly rhythm, plus an addictive hook (it only takes a couple listens before you'll be shouting "I'm blind to you haterrrrrrz!" at everybody). Recommended? Hell yeah. Arrived Today http://www.turntablelab.com/vinyl/457/544/39712.html DJ Supreme & Aliosity - W.R.I.S.T. I'm gonna move fast, so try to keep up. Ricci Rucker, now known as the scratchmaster / producer extraordinaire for labels like Sound In Color and O.X., released this badass mixtape back in the day named "Braille" under the moniker Alias or Aliosity. The mix took the scratch world by storm. In a time when Qbert was the only reigning king, it was lonestar Alias that stepped up and called him out to battle. Although the battle never went down, he went on to start up San Jose's own Transmission Radio (as Ricci again), a show which featured only scratch artists and freestyles, making it the rawest scratch hour on the planet. Besides "Braille", this collaboration with London's Supreme is the only other Aliosity release in existence. The result is two sides of hard breaks, instrumentals and samples you've never heard and never will again. Shit, I never even knew sealed copies were still out there. A true gem. Big up to Glen (Excess) for keepin' Stylus Wars and the music alive. Solid Groove once again provide the winning remix(2) (which was previously only available on a super limited UK promo double pack) with more gigantic drums, twisted effects and the vocal hook from the original. These guys can do no wrong- and they just provided the office with a burst of late afternoon energy much needed. On the flip, "Plastic(3)" is another winner and last up, Naum Gabo brings on another remix of "Over and Over(4)." Arrived Last Week http://www.turntablelab.com/vinyl/151/252/12122.html Jesse Rose - Itchy Dog (Switch) 12" http://www.turntablelab.com/vinyl/158/276/20034.html
It's easy to hate on underground labels when they get popularized, which is why it seems music nerds (like our reviewers) keep waiting for Dubsided to slip. But with every release, people can shut the phuc up cause they keep throwing the molotovs. Jesse Rose's "Everyday This(1)" is like a bag full of gimmicks (Q-Tip sample, female soul vocals, preset synths), but that's what draws us to Dubsided releases. It's easy to chomp on this kind of shit, just like those Japanese gummy candies. "Itchy Dog(2)" actually gets the a-side billing and it goes the currently hot minimal route, building but never loosing its cool. Check for the ethereal, ambient moments scattered in the track, simply beautiful. Lastly, "Second Letter First(3)" is a bit of a throwback, an acid-lite track that will easily mix into dance sets. A satisfying three tracker. The second one's the juggular with it's hard thumpin bass. The first side ends with one of the longest skratch sentences ever made. The whole second side is electro heaven with 8 separate tracks that stay on beat. We think there should be more of these (variations/variety of beats within the same track or back-to-back) on skratch tracks... just like Idris used to do. You'll like this one. Melker slid us a bunch of these, a new live CD that he whipped up for his tour with G.Love & Special Sauce. I can honestly say that I haven't heard a more entertaining mix this year - if you're not afraid of a little cheese (...or a lot of cheese...) then sit back and bask in the glorious fusion of "Lean Back" and RHCP's "Dani California," The Smiths' "How Soon Is Now" rubbing up against Ying Yang Twinz, or the piece de resistance: Grateful Dead's "Casey Jones" vs. Lil Mama's "Lip Gloss." That's just the tip of the iceberg - the mix is split up into five sections (Hysteria, Mania, Schizophrenia, Delirium, Dementia) with over 40 tracks total, including stuff from: Lil Jon, John Mellancamp, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Amy Winehouse, The Roots, Allman Brothers, The Offspring, Pearl Jam, Slick Rick, Alice In Chains, Porno For Pyros, Joe Budden, Tears For Fears... you get the point. Tons of fun (especially when served with alcohol). Spinbad is hands-down the ultimate wizard of blend mixtapes. With his 80s mixes he created the foundation for the mash-up scene; with Cold Cutz Classics, he created the standard for hip-hop blends, and with Needle On The Groove (circa mid-nineties), he created the best RnB and soul blends tape ever. Just imagine what Spinbad could do with a tracklist featuring Sade, Portishead, Soul II Soul, Groove Theory, Charles Wright, Marvin Gaye, JB, MJ, D'Angelo, and more? This was originally a Japan cassette exclusive, but it was powerful, that it made its way stateside over the years. This is actually the first time the entire mix has been available on CD (the previous copies were single disc versions that cut off part of the mix). Highly recommended. Dude is up there with D-Styles, Ricci, and Q for sure. I've been waiting for a long while for him to drop something new ever since Flatulent Boy Confesses and Get 'Em and now the time has finally come with Rough Interrogation Breaks. As the title suggests, this shit is hard and dirty (just how you like it). You get 6 filthy scratch loops for you fiends to get your all night sweat-lodge scratch sessions on. Most of the beats are at the 70 - 80BPM range so you can get that double-time cut on. Also features 3 drum sentences and a few skipless sample sentences. Must have scratch record for the heads.
