In addition the height-adjustable, elevated angle gives you easier access to your laptop controls. Can also be used with CD-J's and other accessories. Sturdy metal construction and a great deal at just under 30 bucks. Recommended. Inside, you'll find a clean, tantalizing white train for all your graf fetishes, made of a durable high density plastic that looks like die-cast, but can take paint way better. Don't call it a substitute for the actual rush(nothing is better), but a blank canvas for visualizing and preserving your best pieces. It also comes with a transfer sheet with tons of pre-made pieces, but that's for wussies. It's time to wreck! Arrived Yesterday http://www.turntablelab.com/books_design/108/118/35314.html 6th Borough Project - Miss World EP http://www.turntablelab.com/vinyl/233/591/81182.html
After killing it with their past couple releases on Jiscomusic and Instruments of Rapture, the 6th Borough Project is at it again with more top notch deep disco house cuts on Delusions of Grandeur. "How Can I Show You(1)" kicks things of on some tasty instrumental slow mo disco for sexy late night groovin'. The sampled loop keeps it smooth and steady so you can hypnotize with the vibe. The Soultourist Mix(2) of "Miss World" on the flip turns the heat up with a driving filtered beat that stays funky with warm synth stabs and deep, bubbling bass to keep the bodies moving all night strong. Also includes to OOFT! Remix(3) of "Miss World" that takes a more dubbed-out minimal electronic approach to the track that hits extra hard on the low end. Fans of Trusme, Linkwood, Mark E, etc. should def check this. Arrived Yesterday http://www.turntablelab.com/vinyl/233/591/81182.html Andy Vaz - Different Times / You Got Remixes (Trus'me, Rick Wade) 12" http://www.turntablelab.com/vinyl/160/443/76353.html
Another great release from YORE. If you've picked up anything from this label you know these guys focus on bringing back that classic old school house sound, and with dudes like Rick Wade and Trusme on board for remixes you know it's gonna be tasty. This EP is a collection of remixes for Andy Vaz tracks and first up we have Trusme doing a uncharacteristically acidic remix of "Bygone Times(1)." No disco stuff going on here, just a big 303 bassline and ill drum programming Chicago style. Rick Wade goes for a brighter sound on his remix of "Hurry Hurry(2)." Deep Detroit style all the way with warm chords, low slung bass grooves, and swanky guitars. Also includes the Xtrak remix of "You Got(3)" that's heavy on the chops, and the Lerosa mix(4) of "Hurry Hurry". For their inaugural release, they've chosen to give the heavenly Patrick Adams produced disco tune "Guardian Angel" a loving re-rub. Lots of dubbed out effects and drum layering goin' on in the original Automats mix(1), which also happens to keep a lot of the OG in tact. On the flip, Tru Thoughts' and Freestyle representer Diesler(2) pumps it up with some chunky disco house vibes and wobble bass to shake things up, while the Shoes crew bring it back to basics on their looped up disco dub mix(3). You don't want to miss this if you liked what Shoes did with the recent Bohannon 12". Arrived Yesterday http://www.turntablelab.com/vinyl/149/261/71131.html Azoto - Disco Fizz LP http://www.turntablelab.com/vinyl/147/433/75432.html
More rare italo disco repressed! Azoto were early pioneers of the italo sound, creating original styles that would inspire and influence later producers. Cosmic dudes like Todd Terje, Prins Thomas, Linsdstrom, etc. owe a lot to these producers (which is probably why you'll hear them drop these styles in their sets). Disco Fizz from 1979 contains "San Salvador(1)," probably their biggest track (which ended up being covered and remixed many times), but there is more to the album if you take time to listen. My pick would be the irresistible grooves of "Anytime Or Place(2)" with its catchy as hell melody and anthemic vocal hook. Also check out "Exalt Exalt(3)" for a trip to the darker side of cosmic disco and the over-the-top italo of "Soft Emotion(4)" and "Fire Fly(5)." Thick, high quality pressing in dope matte cover. Arrived Yesterday http://www.turntablelab.com/vinyl/147/433/75432.html Bamboo - S/T LP http://www.turntablelab.com/vinyl/147/244/75433.html
Just the sight of Bamboo's self-titled LP will get any cosmic disco nerd's hands all sweaty and is no easy (or cheap) score in the field. But unlike those albums that catch mega-loot for one little snippet of a track or for rarities sake, this ENITRE album is dope through and through. You might have heard the epic "Spaceship Crashing(1)" on that Clone Classic Comp a few years back, but there are so many other juicy bits to soak in on this thing it's ridiculous. For starters, check out the break on "Hustlers Of Life(2)." Serious! And the whole track is amazing as well. Then you got monster disco bangers like "Cool Me Off(3)" and "Take What You Want(4)" plus burning disco-funk grooves like "Hey Hey Hey(5)." Save yourself some bills and go for this high quality remastered repress. Don't miss it! Recommended. Arrived Last Week http://www.turntablelab.com/vinyl/147/244/75433.html Common - Resurrection 12" http://www.turntablelab.com/vinyl/233/596/79506.html
We tend to throw around the word "classic" in our hip-hop section quite often, but have we ever been wrong? The single that put Common on the mizzap, and quite possibly one of the most beautiful hip-hop tracks made. That Ahmad Jamal bar that No ID lifted just sparkles, and Mr. Sinista's chorus cuts have been voted some of the best of all-time. And to top it off, Common pulls off the lyrical gymnastics with ease: "I ride the rhythm like a Schwinn bike / When in dim light / I use insight to enlight / Device up in da skin tight / Words of wisdom wail from my windpipe / Imaginations in flight / I send light, like Ben's kite I've been bright / Get open like on gym nights / And in fights I send rights / Don't hook with skins my friends like / I spend nights up in dykes / I've been indicted as a freak of all trades' I got it made." Remixing this track is a hard act to follow, but Large Professor never fails providing 2(1,2) of his finer moments. "Chapter 13(3)" on the b-side is one of my personal favorites from tha album, as Common drops science in form of a parable. But pay attention, he might be taking shots at you. Also includes instrumentals for three of the versions. Supposedly these are Ron Hardy edits that never saw an official release, but were found buried away in a vault somewhere. Jamie Principle's "Your Love(1)" is the track that gets edited here, though these versions sound nothing like the original. The original unreleased version features ghostly diva vox over raw dirty house beats. Pretty much a huge exercise in jackin' up the drum machine. TOUGH! There's another version on the flip(2) which switches the composition around a bit, but is still pretty stripped down. A very dirty version of "Passion(3)" (a track featured on the last Jackmaster Hater record) rounds out the 12". Obviously the sound quality on these tracks isn't the greatest, but considering the rarity of these joints, it's still totally worth it. Arrived Today http://www.turntablelab.com/vinyl/160/440/77643.html Jackmaster Hater - Your Mind / Acid Dreams (Ron Hardy Edits) 12" http://www.turntablelab.com/vinyl/160/440/57848.html
This mysterious record showed up on my desk today and I almost mistook it for an old school TRAX joint (thanks to the sneaky label art). Upon closer inspection, it's an obvious boot - but the tracks contained are actually unreleased Ron Hardy edits that have been buried in the vaults for years. These edits sound fresh as shit amidst the waves of re-edit records coming out these days thanks to the legendary hand of Ron Hardy who keeps things deep, dirty, and jackin' to the max. "Your Mind (Passion)(1)" starts off with a minimal beat and whispered vocal dubs and that slowly builds into a groover with disco bass and percussion freakage. The second version(2) is a jacked up monster with a sped up tempo, punchy 4x4 kick, and all kinds of gritty effects and reverbs. The B-Side is a little less grimey, but makes up for it with melody and deepness in a Mr. Fingers/ Larry Heard kinda way. "Acid Dreams(3)" features a wicked bassline (that sounds a lot like Visual's "Music Got Me") paired up with nice synth strings and topped off with Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream" speech. Total late night shit, essential for fans of old school Chicago sounds. Arrived Last Week http://www.turntablelab.com/vinyl/160/440/57848.html Lee Douglas - Black Disco, Vol.2 EP http://www.turntablelab.com/vinyl/159/1055/51515.html
Brooklyn's Lee Douglas is probably best known for his amazing new disco productions and remixes (ahem, on Rong and DFA) more than he is for his edits, but that doesn't mean he can't cut it up with the best of 'em. Here he is representing on the second installment of Lovefingers' Black Disco series with that straight disco fire that's an excellent edition to your crate. Setting of the A-side at 45RPM's is the sensual disco sounds of "Cum N' Go(1)" complete with hot Spanish guitars and plenty of sexy "oohs" and "aahs" to get a steamy mood set. Play this one out till the break and be rewarded by a hype spaced-out breakdown. Flip the record (and don't forget to change speed to 33 1/3) and check the straight ahead disco boogie sounds of "Hide N' Seek(2)." Feeling the grown and sexy mood on this one. "Fuego (3)" seals the deal on a crazy cosmic foot-stompin' tip. Epic! Arrived Last Week http://www.turntablelab.com/vinyl/159/1055/51515.html Ruf Dug - Dirty (Unabombers, Leo Zero) 12" http://www.turntablelab.com/vinyl/159/278/76359.html
Release from the cult disco and edits imprint The Popular People's Front. Don't have much info on Ruf Dug, but judging from the remixers here, they must carry some weight in dark alleys of bearded disco. As for the track, you can usually tell how good it is by the degree of the remixes. If the remixers don't change much, the original is usually banging. All three remixers do relatively minimal revisions to "Dirty(1)" here (albeit very expert revisions), and it's easy to tell why. They wanted to keep that great mix of disco-funk and 90s house. Check the versions by Leo Zero of A Mountain Of One(2), Lab favorites The Unabombers(3), and the PPF(4) themselves; then pick your favorite. Recommended. Though still rooted in the cosmic balearic side of things "Leave Your Earth Behind(1)" has a funky electronic flair to it thanks to wicked bass and snappy drums that chug along. The airy synths and live guitar work keep it out- there enough for all the space cadets and beardo freaks while the Roots Unit remix(2) on the flip pumps it up with old school Chicago style drums for a unique "jackin' balearic" sound. Roots Units' "Good Bye Earth Mix(3)" gives the 12" a nice and mellow landing on some super chill-out slo-motion disco. You might recognize their name from their previous balearic/left field edits and releases but the dudes keep it funky this time around (though certainly still a bit odd). Check the warm summer disco vibes on "Spank(1)" and "Back To My Roots(2)," the sleazy funk of "You Never Know When(3)," and the weirdo calypso disco "Bagwan Boogie(4)." Great selections. Of the people in the know, most of them got hip to Richard Norris' (one half of Beyond The Wizard's Sleeve) group with 2009's Volume Two. The label has acted accordingly and re-released the rare Volume One as a prequel. And once that brown box comes in the mail, what you'll discover is 8 tracks of ridiculous psyche and kraut edits, tailored for both the obscure rock fan and the stoned beathead. Awesome sleeve per the usual. Recommended. After the success of the first one, a sequel was a no brainer, and once again the Eskimo label does an excellent job recruiting the best known and up & coming producers of this style to contribute top quality tracks. The first disc of this double CD set is perfectly mixed so you can enjoy smooth grooves without interruption, but they also include a bonus unmixed MP3 disc with the full length tracks UNMIXED for the DJs. Stand out tracks include Hot Toddy's spaced-out jump off "I Need Love(1)" with grown & sexy vocals by Ron Basejam, Slight Delay's piano driven anthem "Can You Feel It (2)," Nelue's schmoove "No Strings Attached(3)," Premier Rang's (of Italians Do It Better) psychedelic trip "Zoe Et Heine(4)," Beat Broker's feel good synth groover "Ice Castle(5)," The Outrunner's 80's influenced "These Girls Are Dressed To Kill(6)," Visti and Meyland's voodoo-rific outing "Yes Maam(7)," Mugwump's tribalistic "Stanza(8)," and Lyhome's vocoder swingin' "Other Side Of Me(9)." 16 tracks total. Disconet was a subscription DJ service started in the late 70's that offered special versions of tracks that were either edited or remixed to make mixing easier for the DJs. The records came out every month (as a double pack) and helped get new music in the hands of DJs and eventually into the ears of club and party goers. This "Greatest Hits" series has been put together to commemorate the many classic edits and remixes to come out on Disconet throughout the label's long run (from 1977 - 1990). Most notable on volume one is the sweet Disconet version of Diana Ross's "Love Hangover(1)." This is one of those handy tempo changing records that starts off as a slow burner and then transforms into a pumping disco groover. Also included on this volume are Viola Willis' "If You Could Read My Mind(2)" (check the sick intro break) and Detroit Emeralds' soulful "Feel The Need In Me(3)." These edits aren't on the recent Strut compilation (they were actually released months before that) but carry that same vintage disco vibe that gets dancefloors wet. Donna Summer's "Lucky" gets re-rubbed in all the right places on "For A Ride(1)" making for a extended version of the Giorgio Moroder produced album cut. Karen Silver's "Hold On(2)" goes under the edit knife on the flip in all its swinging disco-rock glory (lovin' these swing beats!) as well as Boney M's "Silly Bones(3)." 3 out of 3 for HMD. A-side at 45, B-side at 33. Arrived Last Week http://www.turntablelab.com/vinyl/147/423/81527.html
