Another impressive, forward-thinking DVD release from Plexifilm. Wasted Orient is touted as "the first documentary from China's explosive punk music scene," and I'd be hard pressed to disprove that. The 90+ minute film from first-time director Kevin Fritz follows Beijing punkers Joyside on their first tour of China, "a country not exactly ready for rock n' roll." Witness interviews in public toilets, mindless songs with a message of some sort ("I Don't Care About Society!," "I Wanna Piss Around You!"), binge drinking and so much more as Joyside make their way through a country that they live in but which considers them outsiders. Three bonus clips included on the DVD, plus an illustrated essay in the booklet, all in the standard transparent Plexifilm case.
