Scratch DJ and multimedia master Mike Relm follows up his Suit Yourself DVD with an over-the-top audio/video extravaganza. If you keep up with Relm at all, you know that he's a scratch fiend that will never draw the line when it comes...   expand review  to stuff that is too crazy. This time he adds DVDJ's into the mix for a whole new experience. Watch him catch wreck on samples from Office Space, Napoleon Dynamite, Bjork, Led Zeppelin, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, pretty much anything else you remember from growing up. It's jaw droppingly funny watching these clips get "scratched" in a way never seen before, similar to the effect of when you're a kid and keep rewinding the funny parts in a movie until you pee your pants. There are also two pairs of 3-D glasses included for in between skits where Mike's trying to escape insane killer clowns. Will he end up chopped into mice meat? Add to cart to find out. It's a 2DVD set, with a PG and R version which are basically the same thing, just one doesn't have any dirty jokes or "violence." Big fold-out poster also included. -C'mish

Oh man, Q-bert done did it this time. You thought it was a wrap with the Breaktionary, but nope. Dude's taking it there with the SCRATCHLOPEDIA BREAKTANNICA DVD! You ever hear some crazy ass scratch and wonder how the F they do...   expand review  that? Well for this DVD, Q's giving it all away - over 100 scratch techniques revealed with video demos and detailed explanation for each! It's as if David Blaine made a how-to video and gave away his biggest and most secret magic tricks. The DVD plays out like a video dictionary - literally - with scratches laid out alphabetically, and arranged in a book-like format with flip through buttons to quickly navigate through the pages. One side of the screen scrolls text on how to do the scratch technically, while the other side shows a video demo (which can be made full screen) on how it should look and sound. The scratches are demonstrated by the best of the best - everyone from Q (and his many aliases) to Tyra From Saigon, Flare, Rafik, Z-Trip and more. Some of these advanced techniques used to only be passed through the elite scratch DJs via word of mouth and secret code, so if you wanna get your scratch game to pro levels this DVD is a must. Definitely Recommended. -snackmaster

Thanks to his Stones Throw-induced revival a few years back, Lab heads are probably more familiar than most with the saga of Gary Wilson, the mysterious NY musician with a teenage creeper persona who released a single incredible album in 1977 before...   expand review  disappearing off the face of the earth. That said, until you've seen this documentary, you don't know the half of it. In addition to the 74 minute feature, this set also includes over 30 minutes of extra footage (experimental Wilson films from the 70s with new soundtracks and director's commentary) and a bonus CD featuring the entire out-of-print masterpiece You Think You Really Know Me. Details from the box: "Championed by the likes of Beck and Matt Groening and obsessed over by record collectors, Gary Wilson's album, You Think You Really Know Me, is widely considered one of the most unique and personal musical statements of the 1970s. Director Michael Wolk set out to learn more about the man behind this esoteric record, only to find that he had all but vanished shortly after its original release. You Think You Really Know Me: The Gary Wilson Story is a look at the fascinating yet bittersweet life of a musician and artist well ahead of his time and ripe for rediscovery." -Chris Lemon-Red

At my bachelor party, I got the worst case of debilitating rhea in the history of mankind. It sucked. However, there were a couple incredible things that I took away from the trip: eating surf and turf for my first meal back,...   expand review  witnessing real life Hamsterdam in Vancouver, seeing the summit of Whistler, beating Boy Genius in hold'em, and discovering the Trailer Park Boys movie. This shit is pure comedic genius, like a Canadian version of The Office (there's also a tv show version), only that you replace office workers with job-less, petty thieving rednecks. This movie actually came out in 1999, and finally just got released on DVD this year. Ignore the marketing (from the producers of Old School!), this heads above mainstream comedies and engages like an arthouse flick. Bonus features include: deleted scenes, behind the scenes, Spanish subtitles, and lost interviews. Recommended. -the mgmnt

Loaded DVD release of Vice's acclaimed documentary on Iraq's only heavy metal band, Acrassicauda. (And I'm not just saying "acclaimed" either - Rolling Stone and Huffington Post wrote about this shit!) The bonus features here include the 45-minute follow-up featurette "Heavy Metal...   expand review  In Istanbul," 30 minutes of additional and deleted footage, 3 live performances from the band, and an 8-page booklet which includes Vice's original article on the band, "No War For Heavy Metal." In all, there's nearly 3 hours of material here. The skinny on the film itself: "In the late summer of 2006, as the insurgency escalated and gripped every corner of the city, filmmakers Eddy Moretti and Suroosh Alvi traveled to the Red Zone in Baghdad to meet and interview the only heavy metal band in Iraq, Acrassicauda. Heavy Metal In Baghdad is the story of that band and its members, following them from their beginnings under the dying days of Saddam's rule to the present day. The filmmakers have collected glimpses into the struggles of Acrassicauda as they try to stay together and stay alive. Their story is the untold story of the hopes and dreams of an entire generation of young Iraqis, young lives that have been distorted and displaced by years of continual warfare in their homeland." -el generico

Loaded DVD release of this 2007 biopic on Joy Division's late lead singer, Ian Curtis, from acclaimed music video director Anton Corbijn (Nirvana, Depeche Mode, Metallica). This 2-hour b&w film (starring Sam Riley, who could have fronted a JD tribute band if...   expand review  he wasn't already an actor) was Corbijn's first feature film and drew rave reviews from critics around the world. This "Miriam Collection" edition features a full-length audio commentary and additional conversation with Corbijn, a "making of" featurette, production still gallery, extended live performances from the film, plus three Corbijn-directed music videos from Joy Division and The Killers. Fans of Curtis will obviously want to check out this account of the man's oft-mythologized life, but even film fans who may be Joy Division n00bs should take note -- main man Roger Ebert said Control "works simultaneously as a musical biopic and the story of a life." -Chris Lemon-Red

Fans of TV Carnage, Paper Rad, BCAT and general outrageousness - take note. This DVD features the entire 1st season of T&EASGJ!, including guest appearances from folks like John C. Reilly, David Cross, Bob Odenkirk, Michael Cera, Brian Posehn, Zach Galifianakis, Paul...   expand review  "Pee Wee Herman" Ruebens, Will Forte, Tom Kenny, Neil Hamburger and more. Tim & Eric were the duo behind the short-lived but much-loved cartoon Tom Goes To The Mayor, and their new show, while ironically titled, is actually very awesome. Not even sure where to begin describing skits like Hacky Sack Extreme, Kitty Cat Man, Gravy Robbers, B'Owl (that's a bat crossed with an owl), but imagine low-budget / public access television as filtered through the mind of an 8-year old with ADHD and a predilection for dayglo colors and heavy editing. Seriously, this is the best [adult swim] show since Aqua Teen and Sealab days. Tons of bonus material, including commentary for every episode, making of, deleted scenes, bloopers, promos, extended scenes and more. 115 minutes. Highly recommended. -Chris Lemon-Red

In 1966, ten New York artists and thirty engineers and scientists from Bell Telephone Laboratories collaborated on a series of innovative dance, music & theater performances, 9 Evenings: Theater & Engineering, held in October at the 69th Regiment Armory in New York...   expand review  City. The artists were John Cage, Lucinda Childs, Oyvind Fahlstrom, Alex Hay, Deborah Hay, Steve Paxton, Yvonne Rainer, Robert Rauschenberg, David Tudor and Robert Whitman. Archival material has been assembled into ten films, each of which reconstructs the artist's original work and uses interviews with the artists, engineers and performers to illuminate the artistic, technical and historical aspects of the work. Variations VII, performed at 9 Evenings, was the next to last in John Cage's series of indeterminate works he had begun in 1958, which made increasing use of electronic equipment and systems. This DVD documents the only complete performance of Variations VII and also presents a stereo audio recording of the full 85 minutes of the performance. Comes in a glossy fold-out DVD digipak. Super deluxe 10th anniversary edition of AIR's first proper album from '98. You might've listened to this back when it first came out, but it's definitely worth a revisit. I know my ears were a little more biased a decade ago and...   expand review  weren't really in tune with the Frenchies, but in '08 I'm pretty sure we're all much more familiar with the "French Style" and can really appreciate what these dudes were doing. Nicolas and JB (aka AIR) were definitely ahead of their time, combining elements from Burt Bacharach and Serge Gainsbourg, ambient, lounge, new wave, disco and lots of synthesizers, into one unique musical style paving the way for similar-minded artists like Sebastien Tellier. Just take a listen the masterfully crafted chill moods -"La Femme D'Argent(1)," "Talisman(2)," "All I Need(3)," and "Sexy Boy(4)," "Le Voyage De Penelope(5)," and "Remember(6)." The whole album really goes down real easy - it's that smooth. This limited edition set also contains a bonus CD loaded with rarities, remixes, demo versions, and radio sessions as well as a DVD with an hour long documentary on the band entitled "Eating, Sleeping, Waiting and Playing" by none other than Mike Mills. All this in a fancy 12- page hard cover booklet with full liner notes, lyrics, and original artwork. Recommended. -snackmaster

The most anticipated release in fixed-track bike scene... probably ever. The Mash crew has been screening their film all over the world now, strategically building up to the release of this book + DVD set. The film captures the San Francisco's fixed...   expand review  scene much like a skate video. It's candidly details the people, tricks, environment, and culture.
