The Apples (an Israeli funk band - for reals) might have the best and most unexpected cover of the year here, as they blaze through a killer rendition of Rage Against The Machine's "Killing In The Name Of." The drums are hard and jazzy at the same time, the solos are great, and that "now ya do what they told ya" part was just made for a funk cover with nasty horn stabs. The flipside has a minimal, spacey, even dark dub version that's almost completely void of horns. Two great takes on a song that we'd all but forgotten. Recommended.
