Defected Records had a string of hits that came out in succession a few years ago, and this was one of the ones that got the most praise. "Elle(1)" by DJ Gregory is about as true to deephouse as one can get. Smooth as hell keys, relaxing and laid back instrument work (in this case, guitar), and that feel-good vibe that just gives you visions of laying by the pool drinking mimosa's or bellini's. Such a beautiful track, and it only conjures up fantastic memories of warehouse parties and hands in the air. The real jam, though, is the Ame remix on the flipside(2). Taking the original and turning in to a really lush and epic jam, the swirling pads and abstract synth tone bring this to the pinnacle of late-night bliss. I'm half expecting DJ Dixon to play this on Saturday when he closes out Water Taxi Beach for the summer, but you can bet that most of not all the techno and house heads will be abusing this remix for quite some time. It works in all instances, and definitely and whip a crowd in to a frenzy. Nice work, Ame!
