Flying Lotus' debut on the legendary Warp label is stupid-dope-fresh mang. The LA laptop maestro responsible for the best selling "1983" LP/CD has got a keen ear for the future of hip-hop, producing tracks that push forward, but don't lose the soul of the music (though it'd prolly be impossible for him to lose the soul of the music being the great-nephew of Alice Coltrane and cousin of Ravi Coltrane). "Tea-Leaf Dancers(1)" sets the EP off right with beautiful keys and slumpin' beats topped with the succulent vocals by Andreya Triana. Too nice. Next, the Flying Lotus flexes some technical chop skills on classic breaks with "Vegas Collie(2)." Note the subtle avant synth work that creeps around in the background. The side rounds out with more LA/Detroit flavored bump on the "Massage Situation(3)" which would be a fitting soundtrack for the suave dons out there getting their mack on. But wait... there's more! Flipside has a couple more dirty-tough beats ("Spicy Sammich" and "Bonus Beat"), but check the unique electro style of "Dance Floor Stalker(4)." Creepy title, but I'm feeling the beat. Fresh lo-tech/hi-tech cover art with fancy printing techniques too.
