the lab review
Along with KPM, De Wolfe is one of the big names when it comes to collectable library records (instrumental music records issued in the 60s-70s-80s for general broadcast usage). Most library records are extremely hit or miss, but this official compilation has combed through the De Wolfe catalog for its finest funk, jazz, pop, and cinematic moments. The opener "Hard Hitter(1)" is simply badass: hard driving disco-funk that sounds like DC Recordings fave Padded Cell. "Silver Thrust(2)" continues the uptempo theme with wailing guitars and a strong breakdown. For a more midtempo vibe, check the synthesizer funk of "Down Home(3)," As you get deeper into the collection, the selection definitely gets quirkier. Moments of confusion usually lead to some magical moment that justifies inclusion. Check oddballs like "Heavy Gravy(4), Heavy Lace(5), Slice Orange(6)," and "Swarf(7)." 15 tracks in all on DOUBLE vinyl.
