the lab review
PPU comin' through! Andrew Morgan has really outdoing himself this year with one solid release after another of impossible to find disco and boogie reissues. This time around Minority Band gets the spotlight. Now I know rare disco from the Jersey Shore is probably as famous as fresh salsa from New York, but believe it or not this band of seven hail from Monmouth County, NJ with some of the funkiest disco soul grooves you've ever heard. They only recorded one LP on JSR records and supposively catches 4 figures in the collector circuit. But whether or not the record catches 5 bucks or your home mortgage, it's all about the music here and these do not disappoint. Check the aptly named groover, "Tasty Tune(1)." A sweet, laid back jam that doesn't slap you in the face, but rather eases you in the pocket until it's contagious horns, guitar, and funky bass take over until you find yourself in the 7th minute. So good. Also on the flip, "Live(2)" continues the vibe and raises the tempo for a timeless number that's "Comin' to you liiiiiive!" Thanks for another round Andrew. Recommended.
