Flying Lotus L.A. #3 EP
experimental beats and ambient soundscapes from LA's hyped producer
|
the lab review
Finally. The third and final volume of FlyLo's LA EP series on Warp continues right where volume 2 left off with more deconstructed-then- reconstructed beats and deep ambient soundscapes to wrap your brain around. Of the three EP's, I'd say this is by far the most experimental and out there. The remix of "Infinitum(1)" by Swiss beat- smith Dimlite kicks things off on a rather heady tip with various elements being chopped, warped and freaked over a decidedly non- standard beat. The clusterfuck of sounds gets totally washed out however by Matthewdavid's version of "Comet(2)" which is completely devoid of a beat and plays as more of a spaced-out interlude to FlyLo's own ambient soundscape "Endless White(3)." You already know Flying Lotus kills it on the beats, but here he proves he can take you away with a beautiful tones. On the B-side, Poo-Bah's Take One remixes "Parisian Goldfish(4)" slumpy LA beat style, and Breakage's Bill takes on "Testament(5)," while FlyLo hits us once again with the ambient/noise style on "Spin Cycles(6)." Limited press. Recommended.
