When you're surrounded by records 24 hours a day, it isn't long before the excitement wanes and everything just starts to sound the same. Then a 12" like this comes along for an unexpected coma-shock and you're reminded how you got to be surrounded by so many records in the first place. Solid Groove, aka David Taylor, has been on a rampage lately, even scoring major label remixes. Here, with Jesse Rose as Induceve, he's made my favorite record of 2004. "OoooYesssSir(1)" features Solid Groove's signature heavy punchy beats with a "mmm yeah" sample that the dancefloor will be humming while Induceve's manipulation of sound plays with the listener. For example, towards the end of this track, the song breaks, stops completely, classical strings come in, and the two get chopped together for the rest of the track. If you've ever wondered how to incorporate classical music into dance music (I have), Induceve has succeeded here. "Get Some Groove(2)" is a deep driving track that is fun to mix. Flipside "How Y'all Funk(3)" is another monster; a brilliant production with a female vocal that gets thrown into effects that are so tripped out, only playing the record backwards will help you make sense of what is going on. Shit don't get any better than this right now in house music. Constantly changing and messing with your head, these tracks will entertain you if you're just listening in headphones and absolutely destroy a dancefloor (as I was a witness to last weekend with Siz and Bill - ABSiz in effect!). "Issamippi(4)" is the mellowest of all the tracks, but again, keeps chugging along. These guys are leading the way to the future of house music; watch for their upcoming full length on Derrick Carter's Classic imprint.
