Architecture In Helsinki
That Beep Remixes (Radioclit, FREE MP3 Download) 12"
Architecture In Helsinki are back in action with a new single. "That Beep(1)" is a nice little synth-pop jam, almost sounds like something Kylie Minogue would have sang in the 80s. Of the three remixes, Kasper Vandergraff's mix(2) is probably the winner, turning the song into an 80s 12" version that sounds so perfect you'd never guess it was written last year. Radioclit goes a different route(3), isolating one vocal line and opting for whispers and panting over a hard house beat. Finally, Haima creates a nice subdued remix(4) that would do well in the "last songs" crate. Also features a download coupon, so you can log on and grab high-quality mp3s for the whole EP. Nice thick vinyl, plays at 45.

Ayres
I Like Make Dance EP
Ayres proves once again that he like make dance of all kind with this diverse EP of dance / house remixes and edits. The A-side keeps it more current with Kid Sister's "Pro Nails" vs. Surkin's "Radio Fireworks(1)," Masters At Work's "Work" vs. South Rakkas' Chinkuzi riddim(2) and a drumline remix of Pharrell & Twista's "Give It Up(3)" (a team-up with Canada's Smalltown DJs). The B-side is focused on house classics, including Bmore edits of Lidell Townsell's "Nu Nu(4)" and 4Hero's "Mr. Kirk's Nightmare(5)," and a seriously beautiful club version of Black Box's "Everybody Everybody(6)." Are those sleestaks on the center label? More ammo for your crate from Ayres. Recommended.

Ayres & Tittsworth
Ultimate T&A (A-Trak) EP
First they dropped the Ayres & Titties Bmore megamix on Money Studies. Then it was the first ever Bmore battle record on A-Trak's Ammo Records. Tittsworth & DJ Ayres continue their themed release dominance with the new one on their own T&A Records, Ultimate T&A. Grey market Bmore remixes collide with grey market breaks compilations, as Titts & Ayres & Co. flip the Ultimate Breaks & Beats theme and rework some fonky classics. On the A-side, "Go Back(1)" has Ayres chopping the Jimmy Castor Bunch to bits, then gluing them back together with hard claps and nasty horn stabs. A-Trak's version of "Sir Duke(2)" is spot on - not too goofy, not trying too hard to be hype. (The subtle, unexpected cuts on the hook are a nice touch.) Tittsworth finishes the A-side with his mix of Ray Charles' "Georgia(3)," then starts off the flip with the EWF classic "September(4)." There's something about Tittsworth and Earth Wind & Fire - they just go together. The best is saved for last though, as DJ Eli (yes, of Fondle 'Em fame!) reworks James Brown on "Papa(5)" and Bamabounce (aka DJ Taj) brings the house down with Minnie Ripperton's "Lovin' You(6)." Artwork by Burlesque's Mike 2600. Recommended.

Bloc Party
Mercury Remixes (CSS, Herve, Flosstradamus) 12"
Nicely loaded short run whitelabel from the UK. The electronics-heavy "Mercury" is kind of a different look for the Bloc boys, and the remixers here give it three suitably different styles. Herve(1) - aka Count of Monte Cristal - comes with some huge ass buzzing bass inna typically heavy Dubsided stylee; Flosstradamus(2) get real dark, synthy and 80s reverby with it; and Brazil's CSS(3) steals the show with their upbeat, percussion-heavy revamp. Note: the labels appear to be completely flipped here - Herve's remix is on the A-side by itself, with Flosstradamus (B1) and CSS (B2) on the flip. A-side plays at 33, B-side at 45.

Bloc Party
Signs (Armand Van Helden Remix) 12"
dance remixes of new rock
"Signs" is one of the standout tracks from Bloc Party's 2008 LP Intimacy. The original featured bells, vibraphones, a mellow 4x4 kick and some melancholic vocals courtesy of front man Kele Okereke. Nice stuff for your headphones, or maybe as the last song of the night, but not really made for a party. Enter Armand Van Helden, who flips the original into an electro-house banger(1), with a fat distorted riffs and a wonky bassline. On the flip, Pantha Du Prince eschews the vocals completely(2), and rearranges scraps of the original into a long, winding tech-house track. Also features the instrumental for Mr. Van Helden's remix.

Busta Rhymes vs. Justin Credible
The Remixes 12"
Some very clever Busta Rhymes remixes from cleverly named Justin Credible. Think Justin did the Beastie Boys remixes on Gringo Starr's No Identity mash label. Whatever the case, Justin breathes new life into three well-worn Busta tracks: "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See(1), Woo Hah(2)," and "Touch It Remix(3)," plus the more recent "Pour Water On Em(4)." I am especially feeling the rock-ish version of "Put Your Hands" and "Woo Hah."

Cousin Cole & Pocketknife
Flagrant Fowl 005 EP
Perennial lab favorites Cousin Cole and Pocketknife are back with another round of white label remixes. Pocketknife leads off this time, adding his touch to Scandinavian indie darling Lykke Li's "Breaking It Up(1)." Pknife layers hand claps, tambourines and snare rolls together to give the track a strobelight makeover, and the result is fantastic moody disco that's perfect for this time of year. On the flip, Cuz Cole offers up not one but two Kanye remixes. First up is "Love Lockdown(2)," which gets put through the disco-house machine and comes out the other side with swirling strings and filters galore. This one's already getting lots of play from A-Trak (who's said it's the only "Love Lockdown" remix he fucks with), Bird Peterson and Willy Joy, among others. Also includes Cole's sped up hip-house take on Kanye's "Champion(3)." Hand-stamped white label pressing, limited to 900 copies world wide. Recommended.

Dirty Funker vs. Coldplay
Viva La Vida 12"
Chris Martin (aka Nu Bono) and the boys are the latest to get the Dirty Funker treatment as the UK's mysterious house-rock remix maestro puts his touch on a pair of cuts from their new album. His mix of "Viva La Vida's(1)" stuttering beats build up steam nicely along the way, teasing with those epic strings but never unleashing the full vocal fireworks. On the other side, "Violet Hill(2)" goes a tougher, more electro route. Limited pressing; pic sleeve.

DJ Asparagus
Ur Daddy Loves U / Unwind Yo Self (Gil Scott-Heron, Marva Whitney) 12"
soulful classics reworked for the modern dancefloor
GAMM is at their best when they're remixing the classics... case in point. DJ Asparagus (no doubt an alias) remixes(1) up Gil Scott-Heron's "Your Daddy Loves You" into a dreamy, soulful house number. Reminds me a lot of Kenny Dope's classic rework of "The Bottle." Extra points for the fingersnaps. On the flip, Asparagus chops up Marva Whitney's "Unwind Yourself" into a bmore-inspired version... a no-risk crowd pleaser! Recommended.

DJ Sneak
Da Pimpdoggy 12"
Classic house remixes from 1995. Personally, I love this era of house music, where producers like Sneak, Armand Van Helden and Kenny Dope were pumping out house versions of their favorite funk, hip-hop, and disco tracks. "All Over(1)" reworks the Loose Joints classic "It's All Over My Face," while "Che-Chez Fame(2)" is a cheeky take on Dr. Buzzard's "Cherchez La Femme." Those are definitely fun spins, but "Because Your Love Ain't True(3)" is probably the most robust track on here, it's bass-y and super-energetic. Three for three. Also includes and alternate mix of "Che-Chez."

DJ Tameil
Get Silly (Bmore) EP
The UK's Dress 2 Sweat label keeps the realness coming with more authentic club sounds from Bodymore. Okay, Tameil actually hails from Brick City, but if you got releases on Unruly, your Bmore credentials is legit. On the A-side, we got the extra-hype ode to ass "Back That Thang Up(1)," which splices vocals from Unk's "Back It Up" with the strings from "Back That Azz Up." There's also "Get Silly(2)" on some minimal gun-clapping Lil Jon shit. Flip it over for remixes of Ja Rule ("Body(3)") and 50 Cent/Audio Two ("Get Money(4)"). Plays at 45.

Dre Skull & Sizzla
Gone Too Far (Buraka Som Sistema, Lee Mortimer) 12"
Dre Skull somehow got Sizzla to voice "Gone Too Far(1)," and rather than doing the expected the electro on steroids version, he thankfully goes understated, bordering on feelgood (you can tell Dre is a true Sizzla fan). Bravo. Buraka Som Sistema(2) takes a cue from Dre, and delivers something understated, but it's BSS, so we know that it's gonna drop into the madness at some point (and it does). Every mix here is pretty damn good... even the steroidy ones. Recommended.

Fujiya & Miyagi
Ankle Injuries (Adam Freeland Remix) 12"
Fujiya & Miyagi's "Ankle Injuries" was the signature track from the Transparent Things... the cucumber cool vocals, the nonsensical chanted band name chorus, and the lean new wave instrumentation. On his remix(1), Adam Freeland doesn't bust out some electrofied version, rather he adds a bit of dirt and fuzz to the squeaky clean original. Lookout for the awesome, noisy climax. Hail Social
Remixes EP
Indie rock darlings Hail Social are the latest entrants into the ever-expanding, always diverse Flamin' Hotz discography... but with six club dudes from Philly on board for remix duties, you know this ain't no indie rock. And, ok, Designer Drugs don't technically reside in the City of Brotherly Love but their blazing electro remix of "Heaven(1)" more than justifies their spot on this record. (Seriously, take a listen - never heard the original, it doesn't even sound like a remix to these ears.) Plastic Little producer Squid comes correct on "The Fall(2)" with a sound that's half downtempo / half ghettotech, while Benny Brows gets a little funky on his version of "All Night(3)." Sleeper pick comes courtesy of Kilroy with an atmospheric nu disco spin on "One U Love(4)." Also includes remixes from Philly party-starters Crimp Your Hair and Turbo Station. First pressing on purple vinyl; pic sleeve artwork by Thom Lessner.

Karizma
K2 Beats Vol.2 (Think, Strings Of Life) 12"
In the DJ world, nothing is stronger than word of mouth and Karizma is one of the most talked about DJ's on the scene. I go to France and it's "have you heard of Karizma?" Or "you should have seen Karizma and the Martinez Bros kill it on CDJ's." I just can't seem to escape him these days. Look him up on youtube and you'll know why. This is his second volume of his K2 beats, bringing you 2 dance edits for your next mix session. "Annihilate(1)" is a long burning track flipping the infamous "it takes to make a thing go right" sample used by Rob Base, over a funky afrobeat groove. (Snack and I think the "Annihilate" sample could be from Mortal Kombat.) "String'd Out(2)" adds a breakbeat feel to the iconic house track from Rhythm Is Rhythm's Strings Of Life. Super extended for lots of freaky mixing - work them knobs son!

dance reworks of classic soul and R&B songs
Summertime house heat. Baltimore's DJ Karizma is responsible for this 4th volume of K2 edits which features the money remix(1) of Bill Withers "Lovely Day." electro-party remixes of KOL hits
Sometimes you gotta throw in some no-brainers into your set. This white label features dance-friendly remixes of Kings of Leon's two current hits. A-side features a hands in the air, electro dance remix of "Sex on Fire" by Sharkey. There's nothing too much to get in the way of the original here, mainly a nice 4/4 drum beat and some electro build-ups for the crowd. B-side features a similarly styled remix of "Use Somebody(2)" by Chew-Fu Phat. If you rather take the more underground approach, check the fidget remix(3) by Tigerbass' Dolby-Anol.

Menahan Street Band
Make The Road By Walking CD
Wow - this is one fantastic slab of neo-retro soul/funk, and it really should be no surprise considering it comes from members of the same Brooklyn crews that've been so en fuego of late. Led by multi-instrumentalist Thomas Brenneck, Menahan features musicians from Daptone's Budos Band and Sharon Jones backers the Dap-Kings, as well as Leon Michels of El Michels Affair... yet Make The Road By Walking posesses its own style and soul that doesn't quite fall in line with any of those groups. You know the opening title track(1) from Jay-Z's "Roc Boys" (Mr. Carter tagged it "black super hero music"), and you'll recognize the Bill Conti-penned closer "Going The Distance(2)" as soon as those horns blare, but sandwiched in between are eight great instrumental cuts that never stagnate or overstay their welcome. (The album zips by, with almost no tracks clocking in at over 3 1/2 minutes.) Brenneck says that practicing in his Bushwick bedroom has made the group the unofficial house band of his street, and you can feel why on tunes like "Home Again!(3)" and the prickly "The Traitor(4)." (On the other side of that, the swaying 'Karina(5)" and shuffling "Birds(6)" may take one elsewhere.) Simply put, MSB brims with the kind of soul we could all use more of nowadays. And: watch out for the hidden track. 11 tracks; 36 minutes. Recommended.

Mighty Dave Rose Del Mar
Inner State (Josh Wink) 12"
Don't know who this Mighty Rose Del Mar moniker belongs to, but I do know that this edit of Josh Wink's mid 90's breakbeat/rave classic "Higher States Of Consciousness" with the Rapture's "House Of Jealous Lovers" acapella is likely to send your audience over the top. Supposedly, Erol Alkan has been doing this blend for daaaaays, so it's a no brainer as a dancefloor killer. It's not too overworked either. Don't expect a "chop-a-delic" Rapture acapella over Wink's wicked bass, but rather just a straight edit that'll have your crowd wanting more. Single sided pressing on limited green marble vinyl... how tasty.

Miles Davis
Shoes of Miles Davis EP
Shoes has been undeniably one of the most popular remixers on the Lab pages for the last couple years. Everything he puts out flies out of here, partly because he picks what the people want (not what they don't know) and he's damn good at adding bump and dub to the bumpless and dubless. This is his most ambitious project yet, as he tackles the Miles Davis catalog (which I'm surprised that no one else has done yet) with four different styles. "So What(1)" starts it off dubwise, then we get into thumping, gratifying breakbeats with "Gone(2)." The flip continues with the most impressive track of the set, "In A Silent Way(3)," which sounds like a cross between an old DJ Krush record and a Theo Parrish Ugly Edit. Serious. Shoes brings it to a close with a version(4) of "Bitches Brew," a modernized abstract beats take on the Miles' swirling, musky original. Highly recommended.

New Order
Confusion (Ricardo Villalobos Remix) 12"
I must admit I was intrigued to hear this remix, seeing as I'm a fairly big Villalobos fan, and who doesn't enjoy a good New Order remix? But then I started to play it... and realized it's just an old Villalobos track ("Frank Mueller Melodram," from 1999) with the acapella and a few effects thrown over top of it. Sure, they edited up the track a little (taking out the awesome breakdown in the middle), but it's definitely NOT a real Villalobos remix. And if it is... fucking HELL dude... slack much? Don't get me wrong - the track is actually still enjoyable, and it's still going to get some massive deck time from a lot of people for the sheer brilliance of the underlying music coupled with the fantastic acapella of "Confusion," but it's really kind of a letdown, especially after how good Ricardo's remixes of Beck's "Cellphone's Dead" and Depeche Mode's "Conclave" were. Earth to whomever did the mashup: you're not going to get the credit OR the gigs from this, ol' Villaobos is. Shot yourself in the foot with this one, eh?

Plus Two
Shades of Dank 12"
"Shades of Dank(1)" is a naughty and rare record that DJs have been searching for since its original pressing, back in 2005. Basically, this one combines Moodymann's most classic track, "Shades of Jae," (also extremely rare!) with a little cut called "Dank," taken off of Green Velvet's "Whatever" album from 2001. The record is single sided and really, you don't need anything else but this track. "Shades of Jae" teases the dancefloor incessantly, providing one of the best build ups a house track has ever had. Combined with Green Velvet's voice asking, "Where dat dank? Who got dat dank? You got dat dank?," you're asking for complete mayhem on the dancefloor. Pick this one up quick as it's been years since it was repressed.

One sided, white label copies of Funkagenda's remix of Radiohead's "Street Spirit." Sade
By Your Side (Naked Music Mixes) 12"
The soft vocal touch of Sade has stolen our hearts for centuries. Ok, she hit the charts in the 80's, but her voice has such a timeless quality, she's practically a goddess among diva's. Her golden acapella's have been sought after and remixed by a slew of hip hop, downtempo, and house DJ's for years now (we carried a 2LP of her remixes a while back), and now Naked Music gives her single "By Your Side" a take. The black label side holds a light, airy house mix sure to bring the sunset straight to your ears, while the white label side adds some jazzy warm bass to groove. The clean sounding house remix makes a perfect frame for her beautiful voice and would be perfect for rooftop, outdoor parties, and lounges. Don't have a much of this stuff in my collection, but everybody needs some baby-makin' music sometime...

Sammy Bananas
High Top Fades EP
As one half of the DJ duo Certified Bananas, Sammy Bananas has been bringing his style-swapping dancefloor mania to crowds around the country for the past few years. Now, he's linked up with A-Trak & Catchdubs' Fool's Gold label and is branching out into producing club jams of his own. On High Top Fades, young Sammy melds the spirit of his DJ sets into four imaginative, uptempo reworks of 90s dancefloor classics. He transforms "Here Comes The Hotstepper" into a 126 BPM bassline monster ("Tha Stepper(1)") perfect for mixing with the likes of Diplo and Switch. Funny house hit "Funk Dat" is given the Bmore treatment as "Dat Funk(2)." K7's jock jam "Come Baby Come" gets doused in rocket fuel ("K7 Baby(3)"), and the Fresh Prince's perennial "Summertime" is turned into the off-kilter banger "Summer Bounce(4)." Sam proves here that creative production can still be infinitely crowd pleasing. These mixes are gonna be huge from now until the NEXT 90s revival. Limited edition.

Finland's Top Billin Records drops their first solo artist release from Sharkslayer, a side project of label head Sir Nenis. Already getting play from the big names (Diplo, Sinden, Scottie B), this EP strays from Billin's previous Bmore releases and can be filed under the Dubsided - Cheap Thrills section. Three tracks high quality plays.

South Rakkas Crew
Mad Again Remixes (Drop The Lime, JOTS, Boy 8 Bit) EP
Are you ready for some trancehall?? The biggest track from South Rakkas' Mix Up LP (great record, by the way) gets the deluxe Mad Decent remix treatment, with nice pic sleeve and loud pressing to boot. The much needed fully mixable club edit of "Mad Again(1)" leads off, New Kidz' vocals just sounding so cool over Dow & Alex G's quasi-fassy 90s house biting beat. After that, it's a veritable free-for-all: Trouble & Bass main man Drop The Lime(2) kills it with his dubstep / bassline / whatever mix, newly inked Mad Decent producer Boy 8 Bit(3) is all over the map on his schizoid version, Fake Blood(4) goes with some heavy buzzing bass and distorted synths, and Jokers of the Scene's aptly named "Trancehall remix(5)" does not disappoint. Also includes the previously unreleased acapella.

Starkey
Just A / Million 12"
If there ever was a hip-hop song that deserved a dubstep retake, it's Weezy's "A Milli." Phila's Starkey obliges with this hard hitting version(1), plus a super-interesting version(2) of Biz Markie's "Just A Friend." Give it up for stateside dubstep.

Tittsworth
Twelve Steps: The T&A Remixes (DJ Day, Sammy Bananas, Trackademicks) EP
Five primetime party remixes of joints from Tittsworth's debut album on Plant Music, and you know Titts & Ayres wouldn't skimp on the remixers for this one. Melting Pot's DJ Day kicks it off with his feel-good Latin/disco/Bmore hybrid mix of "Here He Comes(1)" with Pitbull on the mic and Nina Sky channeling Hall & Oates. Watch for the squelchy keys toward the end - glad to know Day's back at it. Meterhead follows with his take on "Drunk As Fuck(2)" with hyphy forerunners The Federation, where he replays New Order's "Blue Monday" and whips the whole thing into an electro-Bmore whomper. Sammy Bananas (Fool's Gold) transports Kid Sister and Pase Rock to Spring Break '92 with his mix of "WTF(3)" featuring a hyper "Rump Shaker" jack, while Bird Peterson puts the bassline/fidgit chop on Ludacris' "Southern Hospitality" for his remix of "Tear The Club Up 2008(4)s." Bay area producer and recent Fool's Gold signee Trackademicks closes things out with his take on "Drunk As Fuck(5)" with an Alkaholiks sample that reveals itself right at the end. Also includes the instrumental for DJ Day's remix. 6 tracks total.

Unkle
Hold My Hand (Radio Slave Remix) 12"
Woah, is this what UNKLE sounds like now? I admit, like most people I gave Mr. Lavelle and his rotating cast up for dead after that last album, but... this is pretty sick! "Hold My Hand(1)" features Lavelle on vocals and stoner rock pioneers Chris Goss and Josh Homme on the big, droning guitars. Shoegaze meets Bowie meets dramatic soundtrack for a movie set in the desert? Pretty close anyway. Flip it over for Radio Slaveâ™s mix of UNKLE's last single, "Burn My Shadow(2)," which places the original's vocals (from The Cult's Ian Astbury!) over a typically minimal, deep house-y beat. A-side plays at 45; B-side at 33.

U-Tern
The Cookie Jar, Vol.2 EP
Four diverse edits/mashemups from Vancouver, BC's U-Tern, whose first EP flew out of here (just like this one is sure to - "limited to 500, no repress"). "Trilogy(1)" is a squelchy new disco / rnb hybrid with Kelis on vox, followed by a suped up edit of Chocolate Milk's disco/funk heater "Who's Gettin It Now(2)." Flip it for a great, vocoder'd-out take Three 6 Mafia with "Disco Sizzurp(3)," plus some atmospheric ghettotech on "Look At That Booty(4)."

Do It To It (Cosmo, Bird Peterson, Dave Nada) EP
Our midwestern homies at Burlesque went all out for this one - their first ever vinyl release! - starting with the wild hand-screenprinted Technicolor jackets designed by Mike 2600 (naturally). Inside the sleeve, there's five new club-ready remixes from names that'll be very familiar to Lab heads; The Rub's Cosmo Baker gets my pick with for "Alice Is A Sucker(1)," a remix of Moby's "Alice" with hard-hitting old skool drums and dirty rolling bass. Also on the B-side, Calgary's Smalltown DJs give Shop Boyz the Bmore treatment with a French twist on "Party Like A Punk(2)." Elsewheres, Bird Peterson goes all wobbly low-end on the party break-ish "The Jump Off(3)," Dave Nada remixes Soulja Boy ("Cream Dat(4)") and even The 2600 King gets in on the fun with his remix of Rick James' "Give It To Me(5)." Limited pressing.

Do It To It Vol.2 (Bird Peterson, Dave Nada, Emynd, Tittsworth) EP
Finally Here! Burlesque is back with their Do It To It banging B-more series. Don't know if you caught the first one, but this time it's obvious they don't mess around. You got silkscreened covers from Burlesque and high quality pressings featuring some of the genre's most talked about artists. Tracks feature Bird Peterson's ridiculously hard mix of Wu-Tang's torture skit with, "(1)," Dave Nada's got James Brown flippin' out on "JB Baby(2)," While Philly's Emynd keeps the roof bouncing with "Holding It Down 2009(3)." Flip the disc to catch the Wizard Of Gaz chop up the infamous track from Pulp Fiction in "Preacher Man(4)," Tittsworth adding a hard club bump to Dave Chapelle's skit saying "I'm Rich Beeeyotch!" in "I'm Rich(5)" and last but not least Mike the 2600 King's edit of "Hold On, I'm Coming(6)" complete with space lasers!

Hot Doug EP
Hot Dog is the new label out of Chicago from Marco Morales and SES Records' Zebo, "focusing specifically on club music with a taste for the Baltimore Club flavor." Every release will bear the name of a famous Chicago hot dog joint, and with both of these goals in mind they've stacked up some fine names for the debut Hot Doug EP. Chi-Town's Rampage leads off with a bubbling housey mix of Mary J.'s "Real Love(1)," followed by Zebo's own extra hype "Don't Stop(2)," and the Netherlands' Elroy Vanderley with "Cassius 99(3)." (Though I think the last two might've had their titles mixed up, 'cause Elroy's contains a "Don't Stop The Rock" sample. Bangin'.) Flip it over for Red Foxx's rave/Bmore hybrid "Dominator(4)" and Rampage closing up shop with "Hitting Switches(5)." A label to keep an eye on, no doubt.

Miami Vices #2 (Banksy) EP
Banksy cover! Now that that is out of the way, let's check on the music within even though probably most collector dudes just pick these up for the cover. On one side, you have Hot Chile's rework of George Kranz's classic track entitled "Sin Da Da(1)." This'll probably go over well at any club from Miami to Amsterdam. Just dumb electro-house fun. Flipside features Anarchist's "Anarchy 2008(2)," a remix of the Sex Pistols classic.

White Stripes
7 Nation Army Remix 12"
A bit obvious, but this housey remix of The White Stripes' "7 Nation Army(1)" will still do the trick on the dancefloor. The intro is still hella recognizable, the bassline is still really sick and those 4x4 beats they laid over the top will mix with pretty much anything. On the flip, Adam Freeland remixes Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit(2)" with one of the longest build-ups I've ever heard – he dubs out the vocals for 5 minutes or so before finally dropping ol' Kurt's first verse all the way at the end of the track. Handy stuff. Plays at 45.

Yazoo
Nobody's Diary 12"
Mute has dug deep into the Sire catalog for this one. Rather than go for a no-brainer from Upstairs At Eric's, they've hit up Yaz' slept-on second album for "Nobody's Diary," which is not even the most popular track off that album. However, re-listening to the original version(1) in this new context has got me all amped about Yaz again. Alison Moyet's songwriting and Vince Clarke synth arrangements are of the highest caliber... they just don't make them like this anymore. To give it a modern sheen, this 12" includes remixes by Andy Bell & JC(2) and Koishii & Hush(3). Awesome matte pic sleeve with original artwork.

Situation - Richard Humpty Vission Remix 12"
Deadstock find of this 1999 remix single for Yazoo' hit "Situation." on the A-side features the big room Club 69 Speed remix(1), and Richard "Humpty" Vission's Dub version on the flip. For our purposes, the Humpty version is the more likely spin, as Vission deconstructs the original synth line and filters the vocals in-and-out. Also includes the Humpty instrumental.
