Ask almost any artist and they'll tell you the sketchbook is their most prized possession. It is the artist's secret world; a fertile hot-bed of unconstrained ideas, raw inspiration and unbounded energy. With Street Sketchbook, you get a rare glimpse into the...   expand review  sketchbooks of over 60 contemporary artists from around the world working in a variety of disciplines, from graffiti, street art, illustration, painting, design and animation. Take a peak into the personal sketchbooks of such artists as Banksy, Blu, AJ Purdy, Sickboy, Turfone, Microbo, Miss Lotion, Neb, Other, Showchicken, Jason Hsu, Joshka and many more. The book also features some outside works (on walls and buildings) from several artists including Dem, Banksy, Kryot, Hello Monsters, PAL, Paris, Ponk, Rekal, San, Sat One, Xenz, and my favorite, Turbo. The variety of styles represented is amazing (so easy to get lost in), and it's great to see how many ideas and themes are shared all over the world. Over 270 brilliant, full color pages in a thick hardcover edition with rounded corners. -snackmaster

Limited edition transparent orange wax! Of course, with the way the universe works, I -- the one person in the world who hasn't seen Juno -- would end up writing this review. No matter: with Belle & Sebastian ("Piazza, New York Catcher(1)"),...   expand review  The Kinks ("A Well Respected Man(2)"), Buddy Holly, Velvet Underground, Cat Power, Mott The Hoople and the Moldy Peaches / Kimya Dawson on hand, the soundtrack stands on its own. I've always had a soft spot for Sonic Youth's intense Carpenter's cover, "Superstar(3)," too. Includes both the Moldy Peaches(4) and Michael Cera & Ellen Page(5) versions of "Anyone Else But You." 19 tracks total. -Larri Byrd

Big track from the Presets, who go the ultra heavy, nearly industrial route this time around. The massive distorted electronics and sick live(?) drums of the original(1) run wild as frontmang Julian Hamilton tears it up with emphatic, ecstatic vocals. Gotta say...   expand review  though, the remixes are what's good here. Turbo's D.I.M.(2) manages to retain that intensity while making the whole affair much more dancefloor friendly via chunky synths and a breakdown / end bit which should absolutely murder. Also, woah, where the fuck have Mouse On Mars been? Their bubbling, skittery "Acid Pretzels" version(3) is a nice listen, though not as useful as Krice Menace's dubby remix(4). -Larri Byrd

France's tasty digger man, Arthur King, gets oh so sexy in this new mix of slow jams that's perfect for those romantic moments. Personally, I love the slow jams. Sure you can freak all night long, but nothing keeps you drier and...   expand review  more intimate than a 60 bpm slow-burner. From hidden bumps from R Kelly, NERD, and Aaliyah to Prince, Barbara Mason, Diana Ross, Teddy Pendergrass, and Marvin Gaye this mix has pretty much every form of bump n' grind music you can imagine. I think the Eddie Kendrick vs. Justin Timberlake's "my Love" speaks for itself. Just a solid mixture, of sultry jams for lovers of all baby makin music, new and old. -C'mish

More future-retro sounds from the Juggernauts, whose name is proving pretty apt at this point. "Shadows(1)" is a gem of a track, a rush of swirling synths, disco bass and tight drums, but it's the heady falsetto harmonies and affected/affecting lead vocals...   expand review  which tie it all together. Flip features a housey remix from David Rubato(2). Check the video, too. Plays at 33. -Larri Byrd

Limited edition first pressing on pink marble vinyl! Third album from Sebastien Tellier, and this time he's enlisted Daft Punk's Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo on production duties. Add the fact that it's being released on Air's label (Record Makers) and this is basically...   expand review  a Francophile's wet dream. Speaking of wet dreams, as you may have surmised from the title and artwork, this album is all about... sex. No worries if you don't speak French: Tellier sings in English, too, and anyway the vibes from these songs tell you all you need know about the lyrical content. This is like Serge Gainsbourg for the Ed Banger set; a poster of a sexy girl in a bikini wearing a robot helmet on an otherwise bare flat wall. Barely a dud on here, with Tellier proving once again that he's the secret genius of the current Parisian scene. Check out "Kilometer(1)," "Sexual Sportswear(2)," "Divine(3)," "Elle(4)," "Fingers of Steel(5)" or "Manty(6)." There may not be another epic setpiece like "La Ritournelle" here, but that's a small sacrifice for Tellier's strongest album to date. 11 tracks. Highly recommended. -Larri Byrd
