Snack & C'mish have been raving about these guys since day one (0day even, maybe), but In Flagranti's original productions never thrilled me in a big way. Though, honestly, what do I know? I only listen to dusty old shit now, and...   expand review  meanwhile their singles fly off the shelves every time we get 'em. Anyway, on this EP, In Flagranti are speaking my language! "Emotional R(1)" combines the Rolling Stones' "Emotional Rescue" and "She's A Rainbow" - weird choices, since the songs are from two completely different Stones periods, but In Flagranti make it work so well! Just take a listen - so catchy and melodic, it's got me doing a little shuffle in my office chair. On the flip, two more hot edits: the extended space rock jam "Rainchild(2)" (with Frampton-esque talkbox guitar) and "Mothers Love(3)." Plays at 45. -Larri Byrd

The unfadeable Dr. Titts makes his return to Vicious Pop with The Afterparty EP, featuring five tracks of finely-diced and heavily gimmicky Bmore club. Tittsworth is seriously miles above most of the other (million) Bmore "producers" out right now, always lacing his...   expand review  tracks with unexpected housey elements, original production and whatever else he's got kicking around in his bag of tricks. Big samples abound here as Titts flips PM Dawn's "Set Adrift On Memory Bliss" for the synth-heavy "Dawn(1)," The Police's "Roxanne" for the BONKERS "Rocksand(2)" (those layered Sting screams are intense) and, my personal favorite, Earth Wind & Fire's "Brazilian Rhyme" on the mellow and funky "Rhyme(3)." He also freaks the Taana Gardner disco classic "No Frills(4)" and a joint that nobody here can quite put their finger on for "Whips Remix(5)." -Larri Byrd

Even more club heat from Ayres, Tittsworth & Associates. Do these guys sleep? Titts kicks off the A-side with Bel Biv Devoe's "Poison(1)" chopped up in his signature style, followed by Dave Nada's "I Like Culo(2)" (pause), a blend of "Culo" by...   expand review  Pitbull and "I Like To Move It Move It" which is way better than it has any right to be. Ayres' track is the one that'll have the kids going nuts tho, as he unveils a slick Bmore version of Daft Punk's "One More Time(3)" (with the requisite Lil Jon shouts sprinkled on top). B-side is dominated by newcomers or aliases -- who can tell anymore? -- with Top Billin' (ok, this one is real) "U Don Kno Meh(4)," DJ Dub's hilarious / awesome "Set On You(5)" (George Harrison FTW) and Million Dollar Mano's "Lady(6)." TA-007, if you're counting... -Larri Byrd

Lab's own Monkone with a downtempo beats release on Ten12. Monk takes a minimalist approach to production, letting the samples really take shape with his precise cut and paste. He knows what beatheads want, so he gives it to them straight (like...   expand review  the neck-snapping intros and letting the drums breathe in all the right places). There's four long players, plus (Monk always thinking of DJs sets) several wicked bonus beats and a horn solo. -the mgmnt

There are tapes like "Demolition Pumpkin Squeeze" and "Reconstruction" that I rocked in my walkman a few times, and they're dope and everything, but the first tape that made me geek the fuck out and listen to it so much that I...   expand review  memorized the intros and could recite the tracklisting was this. If you haven't heard this infamous 80s Megamix, then consider yourself ignorant and cop it now. Spinbad developed and maintained his name on the battle circuit, then toured for Moby, and is now holding it down weekly on Power 105, but it was his always-sells-out-in-the-first-week tapes like this that have been bootlegged, burned and dubbed a million times over that cemented the man's reputation as the 10-track mixtape king. Back when mash-up was just a stupid idea and the concept of 80s revival was laughable, Spinbad was there doubling "Take On Me" while cutting in his trademark flawless rhythm scratching style. In 72 minutes, you get 40 quick-mixed tracks that are put over the top with tons of movie dialogue bits, brilliantly arranged interludes, and remixes that will forever ruin these songs for you (I still can't listen to "Roxanne" without hearing Spin doubling the chorus). Did I mention that the this is also funny as hell and only nine bucks? -the Woodman
