If you're like myself and don't know Glenn, you still probably know him. He's one of those photographers that was so integral to so many subcultures (skateboarding, punk, and hip hop) that you could be sitting on opposite sides of the school...   expand review  quad and still be admiring the same photographer. The intro by Henry Rollin's puts it best by calling him "an energy addict." Whenever youth was buzzing with new ideas and beginning to make a stand, Glenn was there. That's what Fuck You Heroes is all about. Not taking just pictures, but capturing the energy behind the movement. He documented the rise of the infamous Dogtown skate scene, the punk and hardcore scene with such bands lke Fugazi, Bad Brains, Minor Threat, Black Flag, and Suicidal Tendencies, and even went on to capture the essence of hip hop's with biggest talents such as Public Enemy, LL Cool J, Eric B & Rakim, Beastie Boys, Ice-T, etc... So basically dude is the fuckin' man. Check the preview for the golden collection of works here. It's so inspirational, it'll make you want to quit your boring job and hit the road right now. 148 pages of beautiful B&W and full color photos, hardcover. -C'mish

If you love punk and hardcore and haven't heard of Fugazi, you're kinda missing the point. They weren't just a band. Unlike many of the trendy groups of today, they actualy stood for something. Name another band that would turn down offers...   expand review  and invade unprecedented venues, just to keep their ticket prices low. They never licensed their name or likeness for pins, posters, t-shirts or other ancillary items, just out of their devout commitment to the audience. They were always all ages so that anyone could get in and beyond all of that the MUSIC RIPPED! This collection of photos is taken onstage and off between 1986 and their last performance in 2002 by the infamous lens of Glenn Freidman. This was just one band that Glenn's documented in his illustrious career, but it was a personal one. He knew them before they started and after they blew up. I think lead singer Ian MacKaye says it best, "While most photographers were taking photos of us, Glen was making photos with us." 112 pages of high quality B&W and full color photos. Hardcover. -C'mish

Sought after indie rap gem from the mid-90's for those who know. Rubberoom was a 3 MC + 3 producer group out of Chicago that came sick with the flows and beats, "Body Snatch'n(1)" being their claim to fame. The track runs...   expand review  like your above average 90's joint - fat boom bap and tweaked piano loop, plus the ill metaphor for taking someone's girl (on the isle no less!). This 12" also contains the remix(2) that goes for a jazzier route, and instrumentals. The flipside features the ridiculous "Stacks of 45s(3)," a frantic trip through the minds of obsessive beats that'll make necks snap off from noddin' to hard. Rumor has it Japanese cats are ordering these by the 100's from the source, so act quick. -snackmaster

Cool disco breaks action from Color Climax, with an emphasis on breaks. "Disque O Heights(1)" has enough swirling violins and funky guitar riffs to appease the disco heads, but it's the driving drums and percussion paired with the relentless bass making this...   expand review  one perfect for the b-boys to get wild to. I recommend copping two and catching wreck on the drumapella(2) (if you got skills). Flipside gets spicy Latin on ya with "Pa Coco Solo(3)." This stuff makes me wish I knew how to samba and ish... Includes drumapella for "Pa Coco Solo" too. -snackmaster
