OVERVIEW The PDX-3000 Mix is the newest addition to Vestax's innovative PDX series turntables. It inherits many of the features from its predecessor the PDX-2000MK2 (rock solid construction, low platter, huge pitch range) and the "Mix" edition adds an S-Shaped tone arm making...   expand review  it a very viable alternative to Technics 1200/1210's for mix DJs and turntablists alike. It also boasts a unique MIDI control feature (a first on a turntable!) and a slick black finish. FEATURES Vestax has made the "Mix" version of the PDX-3000 with a high quality S-Shaped tone arm for those accustomed to the reliability and performance of other S-Shaped turntables (like Technics). Though the straight tone arm is usually found on Vestax turntables, the S-Shape is a welcome change and is just as effective. Vestax is now also the first company to introduce MIDI control on a turntable. With the dedicated MIDI input connection, the PDX-3000 Mix can connect to trigger pads, keyboards, and other controllers to actually control the rotation speed further expanding the creative possibilities of the turntable. The PDX-3000 Mix also features a ultra wide pitch range (+/-10% or +/-50%), Quartz lock, instant reverse play, removable target light, brake start adjustment, and adjustable torque motor. OUR OPINION The PDX-3000 Mix performs just as solid as any other professional turntable out there (i.e. Technics) but with a myriad of unique features for the advanced DJ. With the ultra-wide pitch range and MIDI control feature, this turntable is also an excellent choice for DJs and producers that want to get the most out of their turntable. -mgmnt

According to the publisher: "Jazz was originally published in 1959, and since then it has become one of the most collectible photography books of the mid-twentieth century, ranking alongside the more widely known work of Christer Strömholm and Robert Frank." Wow, that's...   expand review  pretty serious. They go on further to say: "It is perhaps the most successful of the era's many photographic attempts to capture the essence of jazz, because it is more than just a succession of musicians' portraits or even a documentary record of performance, but a book that visually echoes the music itself." Once again, pretty serious, but you know what? I think they're right. These pictures are stunning, each one of them is like an incredible painting with its time-stamped graininess and incredible black and white contrast. The captured subjects take this book to the godly level, whether it's the musicians in deep concentration or the audience in levels of mental rapture. Features: Lionel Hampton, Sarah Vaughn, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Chet Baker, Gerry Mulligan, Art Blakey, Lee Morgan, and many others. 79 pages, 7" x 7.25", in German and English. Recommended. -the mgmnt

Please note, the tracklisting on the Vinyl and the CD are significantly different! Benga has been a major player (along with his buddy Skream) in the dubstep scene since the genre was formed. For his massive debut full length (on none other...   expand review  than the much respected Tempa label), Benga has proved he not only has bass for days, but also a versatile, progressive style that can push the dubstep sound forward. From the jazzy, smoked-out intro track "Zero M2(1)," you can already tell Benga's got style that surpasses the usual dubstep fodder. But just when you think it's gonna be a smooth ride, he hits you with the roughness! "Night(2)" is a bass anthem of epic proportions - with it's howling bleeps and pulsing sub bass, this thing is sure to wreck. And there's a lot more where that came from. "E Trips(3)," "Crunked Up(4),""The Cut(5)," and "26 Basses(6)" continue the merciless barrage of low end sounds to shatter a sound bwoy dead. For real, this kid is straight nasty with it! Also features the surprising "Someone 20(7)" with a hybrid sound more akin to new disco and breakbeat to round things out nicely. Recommended listening for all the bass fiends out there. 14 Tracks total. -snackmaster
