Jamie Lidell: Jim LP

R E V I E W
Limited vinyl version - 1,000 copies only! The former Super Collider turned Jamie Winehouse comes with another album of contemporary r&b, pop and soul, laced with just a bit of electronica; possibly one of the only records in the Warp discography that I'd give to my mom. (Although the Autechre box set went over pretty well last Christmas...) We passed on Lidell's first record, and while I'm still undecided on dude's voice and still very much against his cover of "Frontin'," the songwriting and production on Jim have both been stepped up remarkably. The MOR lead single "Little Bit of Feel Good(1)" is actually one of the more blasé moments on here, paling in comparison to funky bumpers such as "Figured Me Out(2)" and truly soulful affairs like "Another Day(3)," the latter of which comes complete with a swinging little Bacharach breakdown. More to check: "Out Of My System(4)," "Hurricane(5)," "Green Light(6)." 10 tracks total.
