The SR125 gets similar praise, if not more than the SR50 and SR80 models. The SR125 builds on the SR80s with an improved diaphragm and voice coil design and UHPLC (Ultra-high purity, long crystal) copper voice coil wire. The Diaphragms are put...   expand review  through a special 'de-stressing' process in order to enhance inner detail. Bass, midrange and treble are all more open. According to Grado, the SR125s have balance and character similar to the RS1 headphones (Grado's $700 model). -the mgmnt

The SR80 share all the same characteristics as the SR60, but with improved response. Construction wise, it utilizes a 4 conductor connecting cable and larger ear cushions, the result of which gives a "more open stage." The most obvious result of these...   expand review  differences is the improved bass resonance. The SR80s were the first headphones to be awarded the "Golden Note Award" from the Academy for the Advancement of High End Audio, as well as the Grand Prix Award from Audio Video magazine. Comes with 1/4" adaptor for mini plug. -the mgmnt

Incredible. Freddy Fresh already had me with the first edition of "The Rap Records" thinking he was the ultimate database for hip-hop records, but with volume 2 he's really taken it to the limit. This revised 2nd edition is more than double...   expand review  the size of the original (266 pages now 743 pages!) and features a shit ton more records (now expanded to include the mid-90's, British and foreign records) listed by label and way more full color label scans (at least 3 or 4 per page - over 2,500 total). Each release includes matrix numbers, year of release, and sometimes notes to tell different pressings apart. Freddy has even instituted a five star rating system of rarity for records that are particularly rare, and prices for records that catch loot. This is an invaluable resource for Djs, collectors, or anyone who has a passion for hip-hop. I don't care how much you think you know about rap records from '79-'9X, Freddy's gonna take you to school with this one. 743 pages, full color. Highly Recommended. -snackmaster

All it took was a Neptunes beat and Pharell in the video to blow the Clipse up. Sure, the Neptunes define the Clipse sound, but conversely the Clipse define the Neptunes sound. The youthful, nondescript delivery was born for the punchy Neptunes...   expand review  production. Exhibit A: the first 2 singles off the album "Grindin(1)" and "When the Last Time(2)" are just about the freshest thing to happen to hip-hop this year. By no means am I saying this is the best hip-hop album of the year, not by a mile; but it when it clicks it's pretty hard to deny a listen. The collaborations of "I'm Not You(3)" featuring the Lox and Roscoe P. Coldchain, and "Comedy Central(4)" featuring Fabolous are 2 of the stronger tracks presenting multiple angles over the moody Neptunes production. The multiple angles set the tone here, cause it seems the Clipse don't quite have the vocal charisma to sustain interest. But when they are paired with Pharell, Faith (Ma, I Don't Love Her(5)), or any of the other collaborators, the formula completes itself. Also includes the bonus tracks: "Grindin Remix(6)" featuring Nore and Cash Money, and "Grindin Selector Remix(7)" featuring Sean Paul, Bless, and Kardinal Offishall. Double Vinyl. -the mgmnt

As a member of the Lab's Production Squad, I have the immense pleasure of spending all day, every day with the esteemed duo of Snackmaster and the Commish. These boys are Bay Area born and raised, so it takes more than a...   expand review  little wagon-jumping hyphy mixtape to get them stoked. Upon peeping the tracklist for Eleven's new Best of the Bay mix, Snack exclaimed: "Hell yeah! Someone finally did it right!" You gotta trust this man's opinion – Celly Cel and E-40 are the Left Coast equivalent of us East Coast boys' Biggie and Jay. Besides, it doesn't take a California ear to know that any mix with Rappin' 4Tay's "Player's Club," 40's "Captain Save A Hoe" and the Bay Ballas remix of "I Got 5 On It" is gonna be dope. Much like Eleven's Houston Rocks It mix, this is a seriously well-selected introduction to a scene that most people are just getting clued in to now. Almost 70 tracks of Bay slappers on 2 CDs. Good shit from the Rub's big man! -Chris Lemon-Red
