Chk Chk Chk Pardon My Freedom 12"
Touch & Go format: 12" lab price: $6.00 available: yes item #: lp-1648	quick audio picks: 1 2 Whoa….a serious ad campaign pushing Chk Chk Chk's new LP. The Sacramento/NY group seems to be everywhere, and although singer Nic Offer's lyrics have been critically dismissed as puerile, asinine and irrelevant, he delivers on the first single "Pardon My Freedom(1)" with... expand review a chorus of "like I give a fuck, like I give a shit" and lead lines like "you can tell the president to suck my fucking dick." It's difficult to come off as equally stream-of-conscience and deliberate, so irreverent and angry yet thoroughly enjoying the confrontation. I imagine this ringing out from Brooklyn rooftop parties in late August when NYC burns in the wake of the Republican National Convention. With machine gun guitar reminiscent of Jimi and U2's "Sunday Bloody Sunday," this track romps. The b-side, "Shit Scheisse Merde(2)" begins like Dre's "The Watcher" played at 45rpm…and echoes a lot of West Coast rap's sonic palette. The b-side also includes a Maurice Fulton Instrumental Mix of "Pardon My Freedom." This single is limited edition. -P Gorgeous

Foster Sylvers Misdemeanor (Mr. K Edit) 12"

Danny Krivit is like a bloodhound when it comes to master reels and he's unveiled another major discovery. He gives up all the goods on Foster Sylver's kiddie-gangster-UBB-funk classic "Misdemeanor." First he drops the original 1973 mix(1), followed... expand review by the truly wicked instrumental version, the incredibly useful acapella dub, and lastly a brand new Dr. K re-edit(2). For this edit, Krivit takes full advantage of the acapella, teasing us with a couple bars of Foster's sweet voice, and then unleashing those crisp drums... then the bass... wait a second... then those signature bells (or whatever that sound is). Also I never noticed how cool the guitar was in the original. Highly recommended. -the mgmnt

M.I.A. Paper Planes Remixes (DFA, Diplo, Scottie B) 12"
Interscope format: 12" lab price: $7.00 available: restocking item #: lp-3585	quick audio picks: 1 2 3 4 5 6 This one gets the... hooooly chit! Look at that tracklist - it's like they custom built this 12" for the Lab. I'm gonna go out on a (short) limb and say this is the best M.I.A. single to date. In addition to... expand review the already banging original version(1), we get Blaqstarr's remix(2) with Rye Rye, Diplo's remix(3) with Bun B and Rich Boy, Scottie B.'s ultra weird Bmore club styles(4) and the DFA(5) getting down like usual. Even Adrock from Beastie Boys(6) couldn't help but get in on it with a reggae-tinged mix of his own. There's a mix here for everyone (8 in total!) so drop it at your next gig and boom boom boom boom take the money. Also includes instrumental and acapella. Recommended. -Larri Byrd
