Don't let the school lab look of the Grados mislead you. These are serious headphones designed for audiophiles and those who demand quality sound. The SR-60s in particular have gained a "legendary" status (given by stereo magazines), because of their incredibly low...   expand review  price and "vibrant fidelity." Fi Magazine called them "the greatest bargain in audio-dom... with a rich sound which can civilize even a cheap portable CD player." Stereophile magazine gave it both the Product of the Year award in accessories and budget component category. For practical applications, the SR-60s (as well as the SR80 and SR125) are excellent for home or portable use (works well with iPods), and in-house djing. (We wouldn't really recommend this for club djing because of low isolation and medium-build construction). The swiveling ear pieces are very conducive for cueing. I have also heard from several sources that Grados are excellent for headphone mastering. Grado defines the particular characteristics of the SR60 as: good bass, excellent resolution, very smooth sound. Comfort-wise the Grados are very light on the head with low pressure and comfortable foam ear pieces. Comes with 1/4" adaptor for mini plug. -the mgmnt

Sony's mid-line ear bud headphone. These still offer very good sound quality, but the comfort level is somewhat lacking compared to the higher-priced, closed ear models. A good set for your I-Pod or cd-player. They run on 16mm drivers. -the mgmnt

Amazing collection of photographs, essays, interviews, personal items and anything else you can imagine that's Elliott Smith-related. This is not your typical pricey hardcover book about a rock star who died too young, invariably released around the holidays... but then Elliott Smith...   expand review  was not your typical musician. Autumn de Wilde's stunning photography captures a man adored by thousands and yet never fully comfortable in his own skin, while the interviews with Smith's closest acquaintances (including Beck, composer Jon Brion, Death Cab's Ben Gibbard & Chris Walla, producer Rob Schnapf, former bandmate Neil Gust, Joanna Bolme and many, many more) speak to what a true friend and sensitive soul the man was. Some artifacts - like a postcard scrawled in Smith's distinctive scribble script, begging a friend to come visit him - are enough to make you cry, while others - like Elliott making a duct tape beard over his real beard during a photo shoot - make you wonder why he had to check out so soon. The attached CD features 5 tracks recorded live in LA back in 1997, including some prime-era material: "Angeles," "Between The Bars," "Clementine" and two covers - Quasi's "Clouds" and Hank Williams Jr.'s "All My Rowdy Friends Have Settled Down." Highly recommended for Elliott Smith fans... or the Elliott Smith fan in your life this holiday season! (Ch-chiiing.) 225 pages. -Larri Byrd

Evan Hecox's work seems to be everywhere these days (Chocolate skateboards, Nike, Arkitip to name a few). You'd expect a following of biters, but those people can't imitate the eye and pure skill. I believe this is Hecox first proper book (we...   expand review  previously had a mini-book from Arkitip) and it's like putting on a real nice pair of shades. His flattened style really brings out the moment when it shouldn't. It's easy to get lost in this. Hardcover, 160 pages. Recommended. -mgmnt

This book is genius. If you don't know Takashi Homma's work already, get ready for a truly different experience. I say it's genius for 2 reasons. One, it's possibly the best stress relieving coffee table book. If you or a guest wanna...   expand review  feel relaxed, have them take a seat, serve them a drink and have them peer into Takashi's serene ocean photography. It really does you good(especially if you live in a city like NY)! The second reason why this is genius is because he's carved out the best niche job ever. Think about the next time someone asks him what he does. Wouldn't you like to answer, "I take photographs of the beach, what do you do?" I would trade with him in a sec. Simply awesome. Full color photos printed in large format 11" x 15". Soft cover, over a 100 pgs. Recommended. -C'mish

Hey, it's Marina! Many have noted that Bonde Do Role just won't be the same without their firecracker ex-frontwoman, and while all that still remains to be seen, at least Edu K got our girl on a hot track. The K-produced "Me...   expand review  Bota(1)" isn't exactly baile funk ("baile jack" is the new sound) but still sports a tough distorted bassline for Marina to purr/growl over. The remix from Crookers(2) is their typical mongoloid crossbreed heater, featuring claps, "Sing Sing," hectic triggered vocal samples and more jacking beats. Sidenote: I've been reviewing more and more records with Crookers remixes lately, and they never seem to have a dud. Includes instrumental and acapella versions. -Chris Lemon-Red
