I see you rubbing your eyes in disbelief like a drunken cartoon prospector, but it's true - our man Egg Foo has dropped a brand new cassette-only mix on dat azz. No hand-duped stuff here neither, Super Crispy Mega Ultra Fly is...   expand review  a real deal pro-made tape, "mixed live using 2 turntables, Serato and vinyl" in Brooklyn circa January 2008. We don't even have access to a tape deck up here in the office, so we can't tell you what's in the mix, but something tells me Michna wants it that way. Our prediction is BASS. Printed on the tape: "For detailed tracklisting place cassette in tape deck and press play. Use large speakers for maximum sound." -suicide bangs

How many of you bought Midnight Marauders on vinyl, opened it up to find some weak-ass piece of flimsy vinyl, then play it and hear one of the most quiet major releases in history?!!! You know you can get the young butt...   expand review  meat in the clubs moving to non-single tracks like "We Can Get Down" or "The Chase pt.2," but you never had the vinyl muscle. They finally wisened up and pressed this baby up loud the way it shoud be. A gotta have. -the mgmnt

T&A
format: EP

lab price: $9.00
available: yes
item #: lp-3373

quick audio picks:  1 2 3 4 5
The sixth release from the en fuego T&A Records comes courtesy of Baltimore's own Dave Nada. If you don't know Dave, he's played in a bunch of hardcore bands around the Bmore/DC area, produced with one of the guys from Q &...   expand review  Not U under the name Rubber Bullets, and now holds it down as a resident at Taxlo with his DJ partner, Tittsworth. The six heavy Bmore remixes here not only feature some sick production from Mr. Nada, but also some original synth work(!) a la Blaqstarr or old Samir shit. A-side has the MC5 remix "Kick Out The Jams(1)," the Biggie-sampling "Where Brooklyn At(2)" and the Queen / Ying Yang jumble "Fat Bottom Girl(3)." B-side wins, however, with remixes of Unk's "Back It Up(4)" and Screamin' Jay Hawkins' "Spell On You(5)," plus "Bonus Beats," featuring crisp Bmore drums and some of that tasty synth. -Larri Byrd

Shoes
format: EP

lab price: $8.00
available: yes
item #: fr-1733

quick audio picks:  1 2 3 4
Shoes has been undeniably one of the most popular remixers on the Lab pages for the last couple years. Everything he puts out flies out of here, partly because he picks what the people want (not what they don't know) and he's...   expand review  damn good at adding bump and dub to the bumpless and dubless. This is his most ambitious project yet, as he tackles the Miles Davis catalog (which I'm surprised that no one else has done yet) with four different styles. "So What(1)" starts it off dubwise, then we get into thumping, gratifying breakbeats with "Gone(2)." The flip continues with the most impressive track of the set, "In A Silent Way(3)," which sounds like a cross between an old DJ Krush record and a Theo Parrish Ugly Edit. Serious. Shoes brings it to a close with a version(4) of "Bitches Brew," a modernized abstract beats take on the Miles' swirling, musky original. Highly recommended. -the mgmnt

More of that Parisian fire to keep you toasty this winter. I know we say it every time, but Round 5 in Kitsune's Maison comp series might be the most stacked yet in terms of big names. The dormant Fischerspooner lead off...   expand review  with a new track, "The Best Revenge(1)," with Roxy Music-esque sax honks that might just turn some haters around. Alan Braxe comes with more newness on the synth-heavy (what else?) "Addicted(2)," M.I.A. gets obliterated on the Silverlink vs. Kicks Like A Mule remix of "XR2(3)," DATA gets a "Kitsune DJ Friendly Edit" of their "Aerius Light(4)," CSS turn in a very CSS-ish remix Bitchee Bitchee Ya Ya Ya's "Fuck Friend(5)" and Ed Banger vets Vicarious Bliss end things on a beautiful note with the "Mellotron Mix" of Cazals' "To Cut A Long Story Short(6)." Also includes more previously vinyl-only tracks from Big Face, Rex The Dog, Does It Offend You Yeah?, Digitalism, Teenagers and David E. Sugar, plus a bonus "hidden" track from Yelle. 17 tracks; 77 minutes. -Larri Byrd

NormRex

Another advanced break record from Norm Rex, this time from your boy Tigerstyle who has 'nuff battle cred to deserve your respect (3x world champ, 4x UK champ). If you check out the Machinedrum record from this label, you know they're taking...   expand review  scratch records to the next level with the forward thinking breaks, fresh loops, sentences and sounds. Tigerstyle doesn't disappoint - hooking you up with a couple heavy, heavy grime type beats ready for you to get your double-time cut on, (plus loads of beat loops and snippets so you can get your nasty juggle on). I can't stress enough how creative and high quality the breaks and sounds are on here. They're definitely more on the electronic/grime side and have a more produced feel than the typical dry break records that come through. Doubles recommended. -the mgmnt

Another EP of cheeky Bmore club from Tittsworth on his & Ayres' T&A label. If there was any doubt before, this should put him on par with Jonny Blaze and Samir when it comes to these awesome gimmick tracks. "EZ(1)" is a...   expand review  nice, mellow chopping of The Commodores' "Easy," then "Cars(2)" (a remix of "Just What I Needed" to compete with Roctakon's) and "T's Diner(3)" (you know, the "doo-doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo dooo" song – uh, listen to the sample) round out the A-side. The flip has a nice bonus beat mix(4) of "Easy" with nicely sequenced vocals ("I wanna be hiiiiigh!") and piano at the back. Also includes the rowdy "In Yo Face(5)" and R&B joint "Brains(6)." Recommended. -Chris Lemon-Red
