Vapors does one for the bike massive with their 2 Wheel Issue. In addition to bits on Mash SF, Peddy Cash, London Fixed Gear, Mishka's Death Adders Road & Track (D.A.R.T.) team, expect all the usual attention to clothing, gear, games, goods...   expand review  and music (Bun B, MURS, PPP, Cool Kids, Plantlife, Tokyo Police Club, etc.). They even have some ill customized soccer balls from Grotesk and other designers. 112 pages. -Chris Lemon-Red

Chaz Jankel is one of my biggest heroes. He started his career in the late 70s as the keyboardist and guitarist for Ian Dury & The Blockheads, lending co-writing talents on some of their biggest hits like "Spasticus Autisticus" and then later...   expand review  producing his own solo jams, which remain timeless today. So good in fact, that he's still producing futuristic jams over 30 years later for Tirk records and even getting remixed by cutting edge groups like Hercules & Love Affair. This new collection combines some of his best known hits like "Ai No Corrida(1)" (which was covered by mf'n QUINCY JONES), "Glad To Know You(2)," which to me sounds like where Chromeo got a lot of their sound (made in 1981), and "3,000 Synths(3)" an uncatagorizable futuristic synth jam with mean bass and epic movements. There's a lot more classics, but let’s move on to the new stuff. Check the smooth yet hard groove on the title track, "You're My Occupation(4)," the undeniable pop disco groove on "Get Myself Together(5)," and the reggae infused instrumental jam that pays homage to "Glad To Know You," "To Woo Lady Kong(6)." If you're into new disco, Chaz Jankel is like required listening. He's not only an influence to many influential artists, he's living proof that dance music can be timeless. Recommended. -C'mish

Tip! Reissue of this criminally slept-on release from 2007. This is the first full length album by Studio, a Swedish duo who encompass several disjointed styles including disco/balearic, real new wave, and 60s psyche. Yeah, it sounds like I'm dropping catchphrases...   expand review  to make a quick sell, but this really lives up to the billing. If you picked up the "Life's A Beach(1)" single, you already know about the 12 minute plus journey into smoothness (search out the vinyl for the Prins Thomas - Todd Terje rework). "Out There(2)" actually beats it out in length (16 minutes!) and sounds like lost Cure studio session for the first half (then it turns into a balearic Miami Vice thing). "West Side(3)" sounds like another lost new wave track from 80s, which is definitely an over-arching theme here. Check the interior cover art, where they flaunt the old school compact disc logo and specifications (furthermore, "Self Service(4)" sounds like early Duran Duran). The album comes to a close with "Indo(5)" an nine minute plus abstract thing, that the Orb would be proud of. 6 long playing tracks, 55 minutes total. Recommended. -the mgmnt

Man
format: LP

lab price: $18.00
available: yes
item #: lp-3613

quick audio picks:  1 2
Okay, so you got your DJ Rectangle box set, your Dirty South beats, even Titts & Ayres' Bmore club locked grooves ... but it just feels like something's missing from your collection of regional party music breaks, no? Man Recordings has you...   expand review  covered! Label head Daniel Haaksman, long-running funk DJ Sandrinho and DJ Beware have compiled on this one record basically every single loop or sample you could possibly desire for your carioca set/production. Sandrinho's side has some classic hard-hitting funk beats plus tons of rare acapella snips, like "A VEM!" and "TOMA QUE TOMA TOMA TOMA!" Even got some funky JB drums and (best of all) a locked inner groove of the boilerplate funk drum rhythm. Haaksman & Beware's side is lighter on vocals, heavier on super useful breaks and tones. This was way overdue, real glad Man did it right. -Chris Lemon-Red

Rekids
format: 12"

lab price: $12.00
available: restocking
item #: dm-2870

quick audio picks:  1 2
Some lush tech-house from Radio Slave's Rekids label, "Robots(1)" being one of the standouts from Mr. Solomon's recent long-player. The 8+ minute original mix builds up with gently surging bass and disjointed electronics over a (relatively) straightforward house thump before taking a...   expand review  left turn and introducing some ethereal layered vocals to the mix while revving that bass up a bit. On the flip, Prins Thomas' 10-minute "Disko-Tek Miks(2)" puts a decidedly more summery, Balearic spin on things, stacking the track with fluttery flutes and sick percussion until it's almost unrecognizable. Plays at 33. -Chris Lemon-Red
