DFA has been pumping out a gang of quality releases lately, and this double 12" from LCD is definitely consistent with the recent freshness. If there's any track that really stuck out in my mind from their Sound Of Silver album, it's "Someone Great(1)." The combination of minimal drums, trance inducing drone, and remarkably catchy, inter-weaved synth bleeps (and glockenspiel!) make just the right setup for James Murphy to lay the vocals down and create a truly enchanting slow burner. Seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if this is in the next iPhone commercial or something (actually Shota just let me know it's currently in a Nike running ad - knew it!). Sharing the same side of vinyl is the new disco goodness of Gucci Soundsystem's remix of "Time To Get Away(2)" which is actually quite dope, and the flip features the banging-as-usual Soulwax remix of "Get Innocuous!(3)." If you liked what Soulwax was able to do with Lipps Inc's "Funkytown" on "NY Lipps," you're gonna love this one. For the second 12", techno legend Carl Craig reworks "Sound Of Silver(4)" into something minimal man would approve of, while Windsurf does the balearic slow disco thang to "Us V Them(5)." Quality all around with this one.
