Four track EP featuring all the best stuff from Cybotron's Fantasy LP "Enter" (minus "Clear"). None of these ones will punch you in the belly with the ease of "Clear," but they're all early Detroit techno/electro classics with enough charisma to make...

Classic LA electro. OK, this may not be as crazy as "Egypt Egypt," but it's still some out of control drum programming and wild ass production in general. People don't dance to electro anymore, because all you can really do is break...
expand review to it, but just in terms of sonic drum machine damage, very little from the 80s besides Mantronix is fucking with Egyptian Lover. "Dance"(1)? Come on, that shit is completely out of hand. On a system, it is all consuming. Was it the jheri curl juice? Shit I'm gonna try it and get back to you. "I Pyramix"(2); is a little bit more of a plebian affair and dude's raps probably should have been relegated to the "What Is A DJ" record, but again, there are some production flourishes that just should not be fucked with. And this Electro Eternal label is hilarious by the way. Reminds me of homemade Mexican tattoos that say "El Rey" with a lightning bolt and shit. -Bob Bannister

In the mid-80s, the Egyptian Lover was running things on the West Coast electro/hip hop circuit and this is ripe for reintroduction. For his big tune "Egypt, Egypt(1)" he sinks into liberal chunks of Bam's old electro-funk routine, but this man cannot...
expand review be stopped. Good old dance floor fun. If you need an excuse, get it for the break record classic intro on "What Is A DJ If He Can't Scratch?(2)" on the flipside. This should be huge in Williamsburg right about now. Fischer Spooner ain't got nothing on the Egyptian Lover's sexy heavy breathing style. -the mgmnt

Awesome piece of electro from 1988. The intro of "Techno City(1)" samples liberally from Kraftwerk and Bambaataa, but comes into its own as a west coast electro-bass track with weird samples and the vocoded vocals of MC Eiht. A little after...
expand review the midway point, the track takes it to the proverbial next level when it introduces a breakbeat to the formula, ripping down the walls of your local Olive Garden. Egg Foo Young prolly digs this shit. -the mgmnt

Essential 1987 electro track from the ladies of JJ Fad. This track gained a second life in the 90s as the inspiration for H-Street's Super Sonic Skate Camp theme song. Recently, Supersonic has become a Bob Bar segue way track to jiggy...
expand review sets. Party DJs watchout, the new shit is to introduce jiggy sets with booty bass or electro. This version includes the beatbox intro which sets up the electro drop nicely. Also watch as the girls bust the fastest rhymes on wax in the outtro. Badass. "Anotha Ho" is less memorable but snakes Another One Bites the Dust for the chorus. -the mgmnt

These dudes are so corny it's the shit. I don't know if it was cool then and just hasn't aged gracefully or what (I was like -1 years old when this came out), but good god man this shit is a fucking...
expand review cornpone meeting straight out of Lil Abner. Guys, "Mission Possible" is an electro song with the synth line from "Mission Impossible" played over it. "He's Bionic" features bad raps about a guy who is half-robot and an Egyptian Lover bite. "House Calls" has that awesome spaceship taking off bass sound and Dr. Dre telling you he's "not an average gigolo." This shit is so completely 80s it's incredible. Cheese factor aside, these songs used in the right context will blow shit up. Throw them into your party classics sets with old Bootsy and "Every Way But Loose" and people will definitely feel it. I am probably herbing myself out right now because these tracks are what cholos ride to and shit, but man I am not from LA, what can I say. -Bob Bannister
