“Composite themes and incidental cues for dramatic application”. KPM Musichouse is the former name of the current EMI Production Music library, with origins dating back to the 1850's partnership between composers Keith Prowse and Peter Maurice. This library has been utilized in endless films and television productions across the globe, including UK gameshow Mastermind, the UK edition of famous Biographical program This Is Your Life, and ITV’s News At Ten. In more recent times, their music has been used as raw material for endless crate diggers, samplers, and interpolators. The Hunter (Drama Suite) is a mix of under-10-second musical cues suitable for dramatic pre-commercial moments in a televised crime drama, but occasionally stretches out into relatively lengthy funk and soul BGM inspired by contemporary Blaxsploitation soundtracks. Featuring drummer Brian Bennett, guitarist Clive Hicks, saxophonist Duncan Lamont, rock bassist Dave Richmond and keyboard player Steve Gary, this release is one of the most legendary and sought after of the KPM Music Library albums. Remastered from the original analogue tapes by Simon Francis, the sleeve elements were recreated by current KPM branding expert Richard Robinson. “Theme For a Hunter” is clean horns and grumbling bass, “Hideout” is foreboding piano and woodwind. “The Investigator” is a strutting bassline with wah-wah guitar and rolling toms, you may have heard this sampled in “My 2600” by Jeff Jank (Stones Throw, 1999). OG copies of this LP regularly fetch over $150 on the secondary market, snag this before the reissue costs just as much.
